Our Children Are Not Being Left Out πŸ‘“

While the Prime Minister’s Vision Initiative continues to provide free reading glasses to persons 40 years and over, our children are not being left out.

Through the Antigua and Barbuda National School Vision Screening Programme, the Ministry of Health in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Cure Blindness Project and VisionSpring, is taking vision care directly into schools. Vision screenings will be provided to children in both public and private primary and secondary schools, helping to identify vision challenges that could affect their learning and development.

Our children deserve the opportunity to see clearly, learn confidently and reach their full potential.

This morning, the Honourable Michael Joseph, Minister of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs, visited our Dr. Alister Francis Campus, where he met with ABCAS first cohort of Environmental Health students.

During his engagement with the students, Minister Joseph highlighted the important role Environmental Health professionals play in protecting public health and encouraged the cohort as they begin their studies and prepare to enter a field that is critical to the health and wellbeing of communities across Antigua and Barbuda.

The visit also highlighted the collaboration between ABCAS and the Ministry of Health in strengthening local capacity within the environmental and public health sectors.

Joining Minister Joseph were Dr. Teri-Ann Joseph, Deputy Chief Medical Officer and lecturer for the Introduction to Public Health course, and Mr. Daryl Spencer, Deputy Chief Health Inspector at the Central Board of Health.

Also present were Dr. Alister Francis Campus Principal Assata Roberts, Vice Principal Sonia Whittaker and Head of the Department of Science and Health Services, Linda Salmon.

As this first cohort begins its journey, ABCAS is proud to be expanding opportunities for specialised training locally and preparing the next generation of Environmental Health professionals to serve Antigua and Barbuda.
