🌬 Exhaling through your nose while humming triggers a powerful biological response. It can raise nitric oxide levels in your nasal passages by up to fifteen times!

👉 Nitric oxide is essential for healthy breathing and circulation.

It widens blood vessels, improves blood flow, supports immune defense, and helps your body use oxygen more efficiently.

When nitric oxide is low, oxygen delivery drops even if you are breathing more.

🧘‍♀️ Humming works because the vibration during nasal exhalation releases nitric oxide stored in the sinuses.

This instantly improves oxygen uptake and primes your airways for deeper, more effective breathing.

This is why we always include humming in our breathwork sessions.

It prepares the respiratory system.
It enhances circulation.
It improves oxygen efficiency before rhythmic breathing or breath holds begin.

✨ You do not need complicated techniques to activate this response.

👉 A simple nasal exhale with a gentle hum is enough to shift your internal chemistry in minutes.

If you want better oxygen delivery, stronger circulation, and to naturally support your immune system...
..start with your breath and definitely start humming. 😉

You may never think about how you’re breathing..

But if mouth breathing has become your default while working, scrolling, walking or sleeping, it may be affecting your breathing rhythm more than you realise.

Your nose is designed to do far more than simply move air.

Nasal breathing helps filter, warm and humidify the air you breathe, supports nitric oxide production and naturally creates more resistance, which can encourage a slower, more controlled breathing pattern.

And sometimes the first step isn’t learning another complicated breathing technique.

It’s simply retraining yourself to slow down and breathe through your nose again.

💨 Try this:

Inhale through your nose for 4 counts.
Exhale through your nose for 8 counts.

Continue for a few minutes and notice what happens to your breathing, your body and your state of mind.

If you want to practice this with us, open the SOMA Breath app and try Breath of Life.

It guides you through a rhythmic 4:8 breathing pattern designed to help you slow your breathing, extend your exhale and shift into a calmer state.

COMMENT “BREATH” and we’ll show you where to find it. 🫁

You’ve been taught to believe that more oxygen means more energy.

But the truth is, oxygen is useless unless your body knows how to use it efficiently.

That’s where carbon dioxide (CO₂) comes in.

When you hold your breath or slow it down, CO₂ levels naturally rise.

This isn’t dangerous, it’s actually powerful.

👉 Higher CO₂ triggers what’s called the Bohr effect, a physiological response that helps your red blood cells release more oxygen to your tissues and brain.

In simple terms:
💨 More CO₂ = better oxygen delivery.

👉 Training your body to handle higher CO₂, known as CO₂ tolerance, rewires your system for balance and resilience.

It:
🫁 Improves oxygen efficiency and endurance
🧠 Enhances focus and mental clarity under stress
🫀 Activates the parasympathetic nervous system for calm and recovery
⚡ Builds the foundation for nervous system regulation and emotional stability

Studies also confirm that controlled breath-holds and slow, rhythmic breathing improve heart-rate variability, lower stress hormones, and strengthen oxygen utilization at the cellular level.

This is why we incorporate breath-holds on the exhale in our SOMA Breath guides.

Each round teaches your body to become more comfortable with rising CO₂.

Instead of reacting to stress, you learn to stay calm and your body learns to use oxygen more efficiently.

The key to vitality isn’t breathing more.
It’s breathing better.

📲 Want to train this for yourself?

👉Open the SOMA Breath app and try the ✨Intermittent Hypoxia Training track, a guided practice designed to help you progressively train with breath-holds and build greater resilience to rising CO₂ and temporary drops in oxygen.

When you chant AUM, especially with that deep nasal “mmm” vibration at the end, you’re doing more than just making a sound. You’re creating chemistry.

That vibration inside your nasal passages and sinuses releases nitric oxide, a molecule scientists call “the miracle gas.”

Research shows that humming through your nose can raise nitric oxide levels up to 15x higher than quiet breathing.

Why does this matter?

Nitric oxide is one of the most powerful molecules your body can produce. It:

✨ Expands your blood vessels, increasing circulation and oxygen delivery to every cell.
🦠 Helps support your body’s natural defence against pathogens.
🧬 Supports cellular function, repair and regeneration.
🧘‍♀️ Helps calm your nervous system, supporting the shift from stress into a more relaxed state.

In ancient traditions, AUM was known as the sound of creation.

Now, science is helping us understand what vibration and humming can do inside the body too.

When you hum AUM through your nose, you’re not just chanting. You’re using your own breath, sound and vibration to influence your internal state.

This is the essence of breath mastery: using rhythm, sound and intention to generate energy from within.

So next time you chant AUM, feel the vibration rise behind your nose, breathe gently, hum deeply, and remember: your body is listening. 🌬️

Want to experience it for yourself?

Open the SOMA Breath app and try 🌟Rhythmic AUM, a guided practice combining rhythmic breathing, sound and vibration to help you drop deeper into the experience.

You don’t need another supplement, gadget, or expensive wellness routine to change how you feel.

Your nervous system is already responding to something you’re doing all day, every day:

✨Your breathing.

Change the rhythm of your breath, and you can begin changing the signals being sent through your body.

Feeling scattered and overwhelmed?
Try 4:4 breathing to create a steady rhythm and bring your attention back to centre.

Feeling stressed and unable to switch off?
Try 4:8 breathing. Extending the exhale can help shift the body toward a calmer state.

Feeling anxious or mentally chaotic?
Try box breathing. The structure gives the mind something simple and predictable to focus on.

Feeling sluggish and foggy?
Try 4:2 breathing. A longer inhale can create a more activating breathing rhythm.

And if the stress feels like it’s sitting in your body?

Shake.

Shake your arms. Shake your legs. Move your whole body and give that physical tension somewhere to go.

These practices are simple. They’re free. And you can use them almost anywhere.

The problem is, most of us were never taught how much influence we actually have over our own state.

Once you learn how to work with your breath and body, you have a tool you can return to again and again.

Comment APP and we’ll send you the SOMA Breath app so you can explore guided breathing practices and experience these states for yourself.
