When COVID shut down the world, we moved fast.

In just 7 days, we launched the first BCI & Neurotechnology Spring School in 2020 — a 10-day program with ~100 talks from leading experts. We expected 80 participants. Instead thousands joined.

Six years later, in 2025, over 90,000 people from 140+ countries took part.

Neurotechnology isn’t niche anymore. It’s a global movement.

This innovative research focuses on advancing Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) for speech decoding by addressing the challenge of achieving practical accuracy with EEG data. Here's what sets it apart:

1️⃣ Data-Driven Success:
By collecting an unprecedented 175 hours of EEG data from a single participant during speech, researchers developed a self-supervised model that demonstrated continuous improvement with additional data.

2️⃣ Outstanding Accuracy:
The model achieved a 61.3% top-1 accuracy in classifying 512 speech segments, effectively mitigating muscle artifacts even with noisy EEG signals.

3️⃣ Sustained Performance:
Over a seven-month period, the model maintained high accuracy with only 30 minutes of calibration data, proving its reliability for long-term use.

4️⃣ Transfer Learning in Action:
Pre-training with 100 hours of data from one participant improved accuracy by 19.5% compared to training from scratch, showcasing the model’s ability to adapt across individuals.

👏 This groundbreaking work showcases the potential of BCIs to revolutionize speech decoding and expand accessibility to non-invasive neurotechnology.
