Earlier this week, was pleased to co-organise and participate in the 23rd Plenary Meeting of the EU Observatory on the Supply of Medical Radioisotopes in Bergamo!

For the first time, the event was hosted at a hospital, with Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital bringing together representatives from EU institutions and agencies, industry, research reactors and EANM to discuss the future of medical radioisotope supply in Europe.

Participants also had the opportunity to visit the hospital’s nuclear medicine, radiation therapy and radiology departments, giving industry representatives valuable insights into the clinical use of medical radioisotopes.

Following the recent publication of the European Radioisotope Valley Initiative (ERVI) Communication, discussions focused on its implementation, funding, supply monitoring and resilience, and the future role of the EU Observatory.

EANM looks forward to continuing its collaboration with European partners to help secure a resilient and sustainable supply of medical radioisotopes. We would also like to thank Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital for hosting us and everyone who contributed to these valuable discussions!

Last week, we introduced around 200 medical students to nuclear medicine and the career opportunities it offers during the INSPIRE by EANM Roadshow at the EMSA - European Medical Students' Association Autumn Assembly 2026 in Lisbon! 🇵🇹

New publication! 🗞️

A new joint procedural guideline in cooperation with the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI), the American College of Nuclear Medicine (ACNM) and the Australian & New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine (ANZSNM) on current lung scintigraphy practices is now available!

The guideline provides updated recommendations for performing and interpreting ventilation-perfusion, ventilation-only and perfusion-only scintigraphy, and thus, supports the diagnosis and evaluation of pulmonary conditions. Building on the previous guideline published in 2012, this update reflects the major advances in lung imaging over the years, including the transition from planar imaging to SPECT and SPECT/CT co-registration.
