There is a popular story attributed to Buddha about a man and a raft.

A man traveling along a path came to a great expanse of water. As he stood on the shore, he realized there were dangers and discomforts all about. But the other shore appeared safe and inviting. The man looked for a boat or a bridge and found neither. But with great effort he gathered grass, twigs and branches and tied them all together to make a simple raft. Relying on the raft to keep himself afloat, the man paddled with his hands and feet and reached the safety of the other shore. He could continue his journey on dry land.

Now, what would he do with his makeshift raft? Would he drag it along with him or leave it behind? He would leave it, the Buddha said. Then the Buddha explained that the dharma is like a raft. It is useful for crossing over but not for holding onto.

We know almost nothing about the history of the Amazon basin, and until recently most historians believed it was a small, isolated and insignificant culture. Thanks to the use of Ladar (laser ground radar) we know for a fact the existence of vast cities and earthwork structures, some 60.000 of them, predating those of ancient Greece, with an estimated population of some 20 million people, before the arrival of Europeans. Early explorers reported encountering complex society and miles long cities, but subsequent explorers encountered just jungle and dismissed these reports. What happened was a colossal collapse of native society induced by the transmission of deadly smallpox from that same early explorers, with estimates of above 90% death rate. What remains after 8.000 years of continuous habitation of the Amazon basin is not a material legacy comparable to the western ancient civilizations. It's a legacy of balanced habitation that understands our codependent relationship with nature. It is now clear that the whole amazon basin is a man-made garden with an excessive amount of fruit and nuts bearing species, and extensive terraforming evident in man-made superrich Terra preta soil.

But another even more precious legacy remains, and it is the one of spiritual evolution grounded in incredibly vast phytopharmacology unrivalled even by our own modern medicine. As a part of my consciousness expansion journey, I was lucky enough to be guided towards one of the last traditionally trained Shipibo shamans, Maestra Jakon Rate. Her family is the sole guardian of quite an incredible bioluminescent tree called Noya Rao (Palo Volador in Spanish), a master plant teacher often compared to the Boddhisatva of the plant kingdom. It was the beginning of something I'm just now some 2,5 years later are slowly starting to understand. A connection to other modalities of consciousness, facilitating profound transformation and growth that enabled unconditional surrender to the great flow of life. In the end, there is only one simple truth we should live, and it's the understanding that we are love.

We are at the point in our history where self-examination and consciousness expansion is not a luxury, but a necessity to balance the exponential noise and chaos of our material simulation we call reality. As the teacher of my teacher, the late Sunyata Saraswati once said - "We learn from our pain and suffering when we can't learn from love and joy". The choice is ours, to be in the flow or to learn from obstacles. Either way, the lessons will be repeated until learned.

There is much benefit by being grounded in Earth and guided by Heaven. The same as we should regard the mind and objects as inseparable, we too should see Heaven and Earth as naturally dissolving into one. That original wakefulness is the essence of luminous golden emptiness achieved neither by striving or rejecting. Through non-attachment it naturally arises, some call it The Dao.

It's fascinating how complicated we humans can make things that are so very simple and natural.

Relax, breathe in, breathe out, observe.

The most effective spiritual practice I know of can be condensed to that, everything we need is our body and breath.
A few days ago I was talking with my Kriya teacher on how we tend to believe if it's hard and complicated the practice must be better or more advanced when exactly the opposite is true. Anyway, we had a good laugh about how silly we humans can be, everything we need was always in front of us. Through the self, to the self.

Love is oneness and to experience it fully we need to dissolve all self-destructive habits that are separating us from that state. Often we confuse the various stages of this boundary dissolution with the final goal of complete oneness/love. So and we end up telling ourselves or others what we need their love to be for us. As Khalil puts it we are still being in the process of grinding to our whiteness and freeing ourselves from our husks. But love never asks or needs anything, it is content all by itself as it understands there is nothing outside it, for it's the heart of Life itself. In the end, the deepest secrets of Life will be revealed to the one who opens his heart and surrenders itself to be the fragment of universal oneness. Everything we need to know about love is contained in just a few verses of Khalil's immortal poetry.

We have mono-cultured our minds and disavowed the perceptual states all of our ancestors honored, cultivated, and trusted. Dream states, trance states, hypnagogic reverie, day dreaming, intense fasting, prayer, prolonged silent retreats in nature, ingestion of sacred plants, and more have been trusted paths to deepening our relationship with the wisdom inherent in every moment of creation.
West has led us into a cul-de-sac of over-intellectualized materialist delusions. Our humanity, our imaginations, have been shrunk to fit into the “provable,” “repeatable,” “quantifiable” lab test of what sadly passes for truth.
When we step past our enculturated doubt, we are able open to the world of awe, beauty, wisdom, and joy we easily accessed as children. Play, curiosity, and vulnerability are part of the practice. As we reanimate the world, we reanimate ourselves.
