Cancer touches more lives than we often realise.

It may be a family member, a friend, a neighbour, a colleague or someone in our own household. Behind every diagnosis is a person, a family, and a community learning to face each day with strength and hope.

This Daffodil Day, we stand with everyone whose life has been impacted by cancer and recognise the incredible courage shown by patients, carers, families, researchers, and healthcare professionals.

It's also a reminder that looking after your health matters. Attending recommended health checks, speaking with your GP about any ongoing or unusual symptoms, and participating in appropriate screening programs can all play an important role in supporting your long-term health.

At Aberdeen Surgery, we're proud to support our community by providing compassionate care and encouraging preventive healthcare at every stage of life.

πŸ’› Today, let's take a moment to show kindness, offer support, and remember that no one should face cancer alone.

You know that moment when you think...

"Winter's nearly over, I probably don't need it now."

The truth is, flu season can continue throughout winter, which means it's still a good time to think about protecting yourself and those around you.

If you haven't had your flu vaccination yet, there's still time.

At Aberdeen Surgery, flu vaccinations are available to help protect against seasonal influenza during the remainder of the winter months.

The flu vaccine is recommended for many people, particularly those who are at higher risk of complications from influenza. If you're unsure whether you're eligible or have questions about vaccination, our team is happy to help.

Here's why it's still worth booking:

πŸ’‰ Help protect yourself during the remainder of flu season
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ Help reduce the spread of influenza within the community
🩺 Speak with your GP if you have questions about your eligibility or vaccination options

Don't let the calendar fool you, winter isn't over just yet.

πŸ‘‡ Have you had your flu vaccination this winter? If not, now's a great time to book.

How many times have you said...

"I'll catch up on sleep this weekend." 😴

For most of us, life gets busy. Work, family, school runs, and everything in between can make a good night's sleep feel like a luxury instead of a necessity.

But sleep isn't just about feeling less tired.

It plays an important role in your overall health and wellbeing, supporting your mood, memory, concentration, immune system, and heart health.

This Sleep Health Week is a good reminder to make healthy sleep a priority.

Some simple habits that may help include:

πŸŒ™ Keeping a regular sleep schedule
πŸ“± Limiting screen time before bed
β˜• Avoiding caffeine late in the day
πŸ›οΈ Creating a comfortable sleep environment

If you're regularly struggling to fall asleep, waking throughout the night, or still feeling exhausted after what should be a full night's sleep, it may be worth having a conversation with your GP.

Ongoing sleep concerns can sometimes be linked to underlying health conditions that may benefit from medical assessment.

Looking after your health starts with looking after your sleep.

πŸ‘‡ What's one habit that helps you get a better night's sleep?

You don't have to be a doctor to save a life.

Sometimes, simply recognising the signs of a stroke and acting quickly can make all the difference.

During National Stroke Week (3rd–9th August), we're encouraging everyone to remember F.A.S.T.:

🟠 F – Face: Has one side of the face drooped?
🟠 A – Arms: Can they lift both arms?
🟠 S – Speech: Is their speech slurred or difficult to understand?
🟠 T – Time: If you notice any of these signs, call 000 immediately.

While not every stroke can be prevented, looking after your overall health can help reduce your risk. Regular check-ups with your GP can support the management of health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and atrial fibrillationβ€”all of which can contribute to stroke risk.

Looking after your health today could make a difference tomorrow.
