Specialist Fees - I don’t love numbers but consider these. When you pay a specialist, at least 30-40% goes straight to paying staff, electricity, rent and other business running costs. Another 47% after that goes to tax. Medicare pays $101 for a bulk billed specialist appointment, leaving just over $30 take home pay! So how much of a specialists time would you expect to get for $30? Good healthcare requires time and costs money. Free specialist care exists in the public hospital setting. If you would like to protect choice in who you see for your care and see smaller gaps in private, ask your local federal member of parliament for better funding of Medicare. So we can focus on looking after you 🌸

An ED for women on 6th floor!!! This is ludicrous and women will die. WCHN apparently do not classify the Women’s Assessment Service as an ED. Yet pregnant women present there with heart attacks, ruptured aneurysms and life threatening pregnancy related bleeding that is time critical all the time. Do you want your mother/daughter/sister waiting for a lift to the sixth floor? Or for an ambulance to get to the RAH next door? Women deserve better.

'Potentially critical delay'

Doctors have raised "significant concerns" about the position of the new WCH's women's assessment service, which was proposed to be located on a different level to the ambulance and resuscitation bays.

The claim has been disputed by the head of Women's and Children's Health Network, who told the ABC in a statement hours after the story was first published that any suggestion that the risk to women's health would increase as a result of the hospital design was "incorrect".
