Individual counseling services using creative processes can be provided online, in our consulting room at Semaphore, out in nature, at the beach, or park. We also run g

roup programs and can come to you. Part of our business model is not only servicing the metropolitan area we service rural and remote regions of SA. These include the River land, Eyre Peninsula, anywhere really. give us a call to discuss what program you would like. we can come to schools, hospitals, nursing homes, correctional facilities or to your community clinic or centre. Together we can develop a personalised treatment plan that promotes healing and recovery. We can work on issues like self-compassion, depression, grief and loss, anxiety, loneliness, emotional regulation, social skills development and so much more. We use creative processes to help with looking at the problem as quite often we cannot find he words for the pain we feel. The creative process is not about being a good artist, as no prior artistic talent is required, its about the expression of feelings, and starting conversations that promote self-understanding, increase your self- awareness and provide further insight into yourself that helps to heal and recover.

Did you know? Not everyone working with animals is qualified to provide Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT).

While animals can have a naturally calming, comforting, and therapeutic presence, they are not the therapists.

Animal-Assisted Therapy is a goal-directed clinical intervention that must be delivered by a suitably qualified and registered health professional working within their scope of practice.

This may include psychologists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, physiotherapists, social workers, and other registered health professionals who are providing treatment and working alongside an animal as part of the therapeutic process.

The animal plays an important role in supporting engagement, motivation, and therapeutic outcomes, but the assessment, treatment planning, clinical reasoning, and delivery of therapy are the responsibility of the qualified professional.

Simply spending time with an animal can be beneficial—but that alone does not make it therapy.

Understanding the difference helps protect clients, maintain professional standards, and ensure that people receive safe, ethical, and evidence-informed care.

I read this after lighting a scented candle in the early hours of the morning when it's still dark outside. Love this time of the day, time to reflect, listen to a nervous system podcast, read and learn from other therapists. Ready to begin my day. Life is good 💗🌞✨️🫶

Some smells don’t just remind us of moments… they take us back there.

A certain perfume. Freshly cut grass. Chlorine. Sun cream. Hospital corridors. A grandparent’s house. Rain on warm pavement.

Smell has a powerful connection to memory and emotion because it bypasses so much of our thinking brain and connects directly with the parts of us linked to feeling, safety, fear, comfort and attachment. Sometimes a scent can bring warmth, nostalgia and grounding. Other times, it can unexpectedly stir grief, anxiety or difficult memories we thought we had forgotten.

That’s part of why scent can be such a powerful therapeutic and regulating tool too.

When we intentionally choose smells that help us feel calm, safe or connected, they can gently support the nervous system to slow down and settle. Certain scents can become associated with rest, comfort, safety or connection, helping us feel more anchored in the present moment when things feel overwhelming.

👃🏻 A familiar oil before a difficult meeting
👃🏻 The smell of coffee during a reflective pause
👃🏻 Lavender on a pillow before sleep
👃🏻 Fresh air after feeling overwhelmed

Scent can’t erase difficult experiences. But it can help remind the nervous system that we are here, now, in this moment.
Sometimes grounding is not about “thinking differently.”

Sometimes it begins with something as simple and human as breathing in a smell that helps us feel safe enough to stay connected.

✨️✨️ So today ends a nearly 2 year journey of self discovery and play therapy principles.

Its been an amazing program that through authenticity has taught me so much about being an external regulator for the people I support, adults, teens and children.

Mostly it has taught me how to tend to myself so I can tend to others.

Somedays that is really tough, but now I understand I dont need to be perfect, I just need to be me.

It has given me the confidence to use my voice and to continue to step towards new things. ✨️ ✨️

I am so grateful for this opportunity, thank you Lisa Dion and the Synergetic Play Therapy Community, your light shines so bright 🙏✨️💜

Most billionaires spend their wealth on yachts or private islands, but Tim Sweeney is taking a very different approach: buying forests and protecting them forever.

Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, known for Fortnite and Unreal Engine, is worth billions. For years, he has quietly invested hundreds of millions in North Carolina forestland, not to develop it, but to preserve it permanently. Through conservation easements, the land is legally protected from logging or construction, ensuring its safety for generations.

To date, Sweeney has conserved more than 190,000 acres, making him one of the largest private land conservationists in the eastern U.S. Inspired by his childhood adventures in North Carolina forests, he aims to protect the landscapes that shaped him. Despite the scale of his efforts, he seldom speaks publicly about them.

While other billionaires chase space travel or sports franchises, Sweeney is quietly buying forests and guaranteeing they remain untouched forever.

A great space to connect when you are feeling isolated or just need someone to listen without offering solutions or advice. Well worth your time.

Just Listening Therapeutic Community tries to offer a space that is value to the person sharing their story and to the listener. It is a community.

We do not see the two people as fundamentally different in the nature of being human.

If Just Listening Therapeutic Community could be a space of value for you in distress or seeking connection for any reason you would be welcome:

Open today 10am - 4pm and each week day

Free service - no referral required - anonymous if useful

If you would like to be listened to and valued as a wonderful human, regardless and including the distress that you might experience, then Just Listening Therapeutic Community might be a place you could visit.

The side effect of coming and inviting a person to listen to you is that the listener might find value in the experience as well - not often side effects feel so mutually valuable.

Welcome to Just Listening Therapeutic Community
