“But you don’t look like you have a disability.”

A sentence that might seem harmless, but can make someone feel like they have to prove what they’re going through.

Someone can be smiling, showing up to work, enjoying time with friends or going about their usual day while managing challenges that others may never notice.

And just because someone is having a good day doesn’t mean their difficult days don’t exist.

This Invisible Disabilities Awareness Week (18–24 October), we’re highlighting something important:

💜 Not every disability is visible.
💜 Not every challenge is obvious.
💜 And no one should have to prove their disability to be treated with understanding and respect.

At Care Assure, we believe understanding begins when we stop making assumptions and start listening.

A little more understanding. A little less judgement. It can make a real difference.

💬 Have you ever heard someone say, “But they look fine”? What do you wish people understood about invisible disabilities?

🏡 What makes a house feel like home?

Is it the space to enjoy your morning coffee? A bedroom you can truly make your own? Or simply knowing that your home is designed with your everyday needs in mind?

We believe it’s a little bit of everything. 💜

And that’s exactly why we’re excited to show you around our accommodation opportunity in Enfield, South Australia!

With modern interiors, spacious bedrooms, accessible bathrooms and thoughtfully designed living spaces, this home is worth a closer look.

But here’s what matters most: A home should fit the person, not the other way around.

💬 Support Coordinators, participants and families: Could this be the home someone you’ve been searching for might love?

We’d be happy to discuss suitability, support needs and arrange a viewing.

Some of the best moments from an event aren’t on the agenda. They happen in between. 💜

A conversation across the table.
Meeting someone for the first time.
Catching up with a familiar face.
Sharing a story, a laugh, or simply enjoying time together.

Our Care Assure Tasmania Gala Dinner brought together participants, team members, Support Coordinators and people from across our community for an evening away from the usual day-to-day.

It was a chance to slow down, enjoy each other’s company, appreciate the work happening across our community and reflect on the care, commitment and people behind it.

More than a dinner, it was simply a chance to come together, share stories, recognise the work being done and enjoy the evening with good company.

There was also something particularly meaningful about where we gathered.

Our evening was held at Rydges Hobart, a heritage property with an interesting connection to Tasmania’s disability history. Buildings that now form part of the hotel complex were once home to the Blind, Deaf and Dumb Institution, which opened in North Hobart in 1898 and provided education, training and welfare services. Parts of that history remain within the property today, including its Braille Library.

More than a century later, the setting gave us a moment to reflect on how conversations around disability, inclusion and participation have evolved and why continuing that progress matters.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and made the evening what it was, and to Rydges Hobart for having us.

These photos capture some of the night, the conversations, the smiles, the catch-ups and all those little moments in between. 📸💜
