📣 Have you or a family member been discharged from a city hospital to a rural or remote home after a moderate to severe injury?

Researchers at Flinders University are conducting a new study exploring how hospital discharge care can be improved for people living in rural and remote areas of Australia.

The research team is looking to hear from patients and their families or carers about their experiences of being discharged from a major metropolitan hospital and returning home to a rural or remote community.

Your experience could help researchers identify ways to improve discharge care and ensure people living outside metropolitan areas receive the support they need when returning home.

You may be eligible to participate if you:

• Are aged 18 years or older
• Live in a rural or remote area of Australia
• Have experienced a moderate to severe injury, or are a family member/carer of someone who has
• Have been discharged home from a major metropolitan/city hospital

Participation is voluntary, and your personal information will be deidentified and kept confidential within the research team.

Missed the chance to register before the program started? It’s not too late to join us.

Our six-week Be Well Plan for Carers started last Friday, but there’s still an opportunity to join for the remaining sessions. Session two is taking place this Friday, 11 September.

❓ Who is the Be Well Plan for?
Designed specifically for families and carers of someone living with a brain injury, the Be Well Plan helps carers better understand their own mental wellbeing and introduces practical, evidence-based tools to support their wellbeing in their caring role.

❓ What topics does the Be Well Plan cover?
🧠 Across six sessions, we’ll explore:
→ Building a wellbeing foundation
→ Understanding your wellbeing profile
→ Exploring personal resources and challenges
→ Managing stress and building resilience
→ Creating and living your Be Well Plan
→ Using the Be Well Tracker and digital tools

📆 Dates: Fridays for 6 consecutive weeks, 4 September to 9 October
🕘 Time: 10am to12pm
📍 Where: BISA South Hub – 15 Alexander Kelly Drive, Noarlunga Centre

Yesterday, we celebrated the dads, fathers and father figures who support, care for and stand alongside their loved ones. We also recognise the dads living with acquired brain injury, and the unique experiences and challenges they may navigate.

Whether you’re a dad, stepdad, grandfather, father figure, carer or someone living with brain injury, we hope you had a special Father’s Day.

We also recognise that Father’s Day may be a difficult time for those whose fathers are no longer with us, and we’re thinking of you too 💙

🌸 With warmer weather and longer days ahead, spring can be a great opportunity to get outside, get moving and reconnect with your community.

For people living with brain injury, regular physical activity and social connection can play an important role in supporting wellbeing, confidence and participation.

☀️ Getting outdoors can provide a change of environment and an opportunity to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air.

🚶 Being active can be as simple as taking a walk, gardening or heading to a local park. Finding movement that works for you is what matters.

🤝 Connecting with others can help reduce isolation and create opportunities to participate in the community — whether that’s catching up with friends, joining a group or taking part in a local activity.

Spring doesn’t mean you need to make big changes. Sometimes, it’s about finding small, enjoyable ways to get out, move your body and stay connected.
