For Eddie, finishing the day is only half the job. He has to get up and do it all again tomorrow. 🏃‍♂️

In Episode 2, Eddie talks about the strength and recovery work behind his 3,900km run across Australia, and how preparing for a multi-day endurance challenge is very different to preparing for a single race.

From building a body capable of handling the kilometres, to recovery, nutrition, sleep and where he stays each night, every decision matters when there’s another huge day waiting in the morning.

We’ve loved being part of the team helping Eddie prepare for the road ahead.

Australia really rolled out the welcome mat for Eddie on Day 2. 🌧️🇦🇺

Thunderstorms, flooded roads and B-doubles flying past. Apparently we’re easing him into the 3,900km journey gently…

Conditions were anything but easy, but Eddie kept moving and finished another big day on the road.

Day 2 done. Keep going, Eddie. 🏃‍♂️

Longevity doesn't happen by accident.

Tony knows that aches and niggles are part of running, especially as the years go by. The key is knowing when something isn't right.

In Episode 2, Tony Heard talks about recovery, resisting the temptation to come back too early, and why seeking professional advice has helped keep him moving through 51 consecutive City-Bays.

Some people talk about doing extraordinary things. Eddie the Frenchman is about to do one.

On August 9, Eddie will set off to run 3,900km across Australia - from Cottesloe Beach to Bondi Beach - averaging around 2.5 marathons a day to raise $1 million for childhood cancer.

For the past 18 months, our multidisciplinary team has helped Eddie prepare for this moment. It's been incredible to witness the commitment, discipline and determination that's brought him to the start line.

We sat down with Eddie to hear what inspired the challenge, how he's prepared, and what's going through his mind as day one approaches. This is Episode 1 of our interview series. Keep an eye out for the next instalment before Eddie hits the road.

From all of us at sportsmed, good luck, Eddie. We can't wait to follow the journey.

It was a pleasure welcoming the Year 11 and 12 students from Wudinna Area School to sportsmed Stepney today.

Together with Burnside Hospital Stepney, we gave students a behind-the-scenes look at our Healthcare Hub and the many career opportunities available across healthcare.

Thank you to all of our practitioners and staff who took the time to share their knowledge and experiences. We hope the visit provided plenty of inspiration for the future.

For more than five decades, Tony Heard has made the City-Bay Fun Run part of his life.

Now 83 years old, he's completed the 12 km event an incredible 51 consecutive times. His commitment, consistency and love for running have made him a familiar face on the City-Bay course.

This is the first episode in our series, where Tony shares the memories, milestones and motivation behind one of South Australia's most remarkable running stories.

Stay tuned for the next episode...

Strength training isn't just for weight lifting, it can play an important role in helping runners build capacity for training and race day demands.

Our strength and conditioning coach Owain Manship's top picks:
• DB Step-Ups with Knee Drive
• Pogos
• Barbell Romanian Deadlifts (RDLs)

Strength training can:
• Improve running economy
• Increase power and stride efficiency
• Help reduce the risk of common running injuries

One of the biggest myths we hear is that strength training will make runners bulky and slow. In reality, appropriately programmed strength training can be a valuable addition to a runner's routine.

The good news? You don't need to live in the gym.

Aim for 1-2 sessions per week, around 30-45 minutes each, and focus on consistency over perfection.

Save this post for your next strength session!!!

Progress continues at our new Mount Barker Healthcare Hub 🏗️

While the record rainfall at the beginning of the month certainly tested construction across South Australia, work has continued on site.

With the building now under cover, the team has been able to make great progress on internal framing while external brickwork also continues to take shape.

It's exciting to see the vision becoming a reality, and we're looking forward to bringing orthopaedic care, allied health and rehabilitation services closer to the growing Mount Barker community.

We'll continue to share updates as construction progresses.
