Your skin’s dry, you suddenly realise you’re thirsty at 9pm, and you’ve been feeling more tired and stiff than usual.

We often blame winter, but sometimes it’s something as simple as remembering to hydrate and move a little more.

One of the things I love most about Bowen Therapy is that it isn’t just about what happens on the treatment table. It’s also about giving you simple tools and advice to help your body continue healing and functioning at its best.

Thank you for trusting me with your care and for taking the time to share your experience.

In a recent consultation with homeopath Tamara from The Alchem{ess}, she gave me some simple advice.

When that inner critic shows up, recognise it as something outside of you and say:

“Don’t touch this.”

At first it sounds too simple.

But once you start practising it, my God it’s powerful.

It creates just enough space between you and the thoughts to realise they don’t have to become yours.

For the cycles of grief, one area I often focus on is the respiratory system. Many people experiencing grief describe chest tightness, a lump in the throat, shallow breathing, or feeling emotionally ‘stuck’.

Bowen works gently with the nervous system and respiratory muscles to encourage relaxation and easier breathing.

It doesn’t have to make sense to anyone else.

Not everyone knows the story behind a photo, a place, a song, a moment, or a smile. Sometimes what looks ordinary to everyone else carries a thousand memories, lessons, emotions and reminders for the person living it.

Some things aren’t meant to be explained. They’re simply meant to be felt.

And that’s enough.

Kidneys are often overlooked, but they play a big role in energy, fluid balance, and how your body handles stress.

Emotionally, kidney imbalance is often linked with fear, overwhelm, and carrying too much for too long. This can show up as lower back tightness, fatigue, puffiness, and that heavy, drained feeling.

In Bowen Therapy, we support this area through gentle work around the lower back and fascia lines linked with kidney function and nervous system regulation. The aim is to help the body shift out of stress and back into balance, not force change.

This is also why hydration and beetroot are often recommended. Beetroot supports circulation and oxygen flow, helping the body’s natural detox pathways. Water is essential because the kidneys rely on it to filter efficiently.

When the system is dehydrated or under stress, it holds more than fluid, it holds tension.

If you’re experiencing ongoing symptoms, it’s important to also see your GP for appropriate testing such as a urine test or ultrasound if needed.

If your body feels heavy, tired, or stuck, it may be worth paying attention to what it’s trying to tell you.

This is a reminder to pull your energy back from overthinking and stress that doesn’t actually change anything. So much of what we worry about is imagined outcomes, old stories, or things we can’t control. Meanwhile, life is happening right now.

It’s not about ignoring responsibilities, it’s about choosing where your attention goes. When you stop feeding the noise in your head, you create space for calm, presence, and actually enjoying your day instead of just surviving it.

Because in the end, most of what we panic about never becomes as big as the moment we’re in right now.

Grief isn’t linear. It moves in waves and can come and go over time, and you can feel it in the mind and the body.

It can feel like emotional ups and downs, numbness, heaviness, overwhelm, or feeling stuck. In the body it can show up as tension, fatigue, tightness, or just feeling really drained.

Bowen therapy supports the nervous system when everything feels like too much. It’s gentle and helps the body come out of that stress state.

It doesn’t take grief away, but it can help the body feel a bit safer while you’re moving through it.

GPs, counsellors, psychologists, and grief support services can all help too. In Australia, Lifeline is 13 11 14 if you need immediate support.

If this is something you’re also seeing in your child, support is available through .au as well.

Today I visited Vital Body Wellness in St Morris to experience the EE System for myself.

And the first thing I noticed was how calm the space felt the moment I walked in. Soft lighting, recliners, quiet atmosphere… it immediately invited my body to slow down.

The EE System is described as a wellness environment using light, sound, frequency and scalar energy fields, designed to help the body move into a deeply relaxed state.

And what that really means in simple terms is this… when your body drops into that relaxed state, everything down to a cellular level is working differently. People often describe it as feeling like their system is finally getting space to reset, recharge and rebalance without external stimulation.

You don’t actually do anything in the space. You just sit or lie down and allow your body to rest.

Before my session I did a V-scan, and then I repeated it again after about two hours in the space. What I noticed was a shift in the readings, along with how different I personally felt leaving… much more calm, settled and grounded.

What I really loved is that Vital Body Wellness is a family-run business here in Adelaide, and they’ve made it really accessible for families.

They offer family sessions, children 17 and under attend free with a paying adult, and they also run dedicated kids sessions.

And it honestly made me think…

We treat the gym as something normal for physical health. But nervous system care, rest and recovery should be just as normal.

Not something you only do when you’re burnt out.

But something you build into your routine so your body actually has time to reset

The SCM muscle is one area I often work during TMJ Bowen procedures.

When this area starts releasing, clients often notice their jaw softening, shoulders dropping, deeper breathing, easier swallowing, or that heavy tight feeling through the face and neck finally easing.

This muscle is commonly connected with jaw clenching, headaches, neck tension, stress patterns, and nervous system overload.

Sometimes the body doesn’t realise how much it’s holding until it finally lets go
