Anyone heard of emotional memory?
Today, I caught the smell of freshly cut grass — and instantly I was taken back to a time when my son was younger. A time of hypervigilance, stress, and trying to protect him from something most people would never even think twice about.
For him, the smell of freshly cut lawn wasn’t “just grass.”
It triggered a neurological reaction.
What many dismissed as “overreacting” or “paranoia” was actually a salicylate sensitivity — something that can profoundly impact the nervous system in susceptible individuals.
Research continues to explore links between salicylates, neuroinflammation, and neurological symptoms including tics, ADHD, autism spectrum presentations, epilepsy, behavioural changes and more.
As a parent, you learn to trust what you see.
You learn that symptoms are communication.
And sometimes the body reacts long before science catches up to the lived experience of families.
Not dramatic.
Not overprotective.
Not imagined.
Science.
Biochemistry.
Neurology.
And a reminder that every person’s nervous system is unique.
Sometimes healing begins the moment we stop dismissing what the body is trying to say.
If you or your child are struggling with neurological symptoms, sensitivities, behavioural changes, gut issues, or unexplained reactions, please know I not only understand this professionally — I understand it personally. I know the stress, the overwhelm, the second-guessing, and the exhaustion that can come with trying to find answers and protect the people you love.
You don’t have to navigate it alone. I take a personalised, investigative approach to health and work to uncover the underlying drivers impacting the nervous system and overall wellbeing.
