The solution to a damaged metabolism is not eating less. It's the opposite. 👇

Low-calorie diets in midlife send hormones into chaos — thyroid goes down, estrogen becomes erratic, progesterone drops, insulin resistance increases, hunger hormones dysregulate. When your hormones are out of balance, weight loss becomes difficult no matter how little you eat. 🌀

The goal is to teach your body it's safe again. That means gradually increasing calories back to a healthy baseline, prioritising protein, building muscle with strength training, improving sleep, and stabilising blood sugar. ⚖️

"I eat less than I did in my twenties and I'm heavier." It's not willpower. It's physiology. 👇

After 40, we naturally lose muscle unless we actively work to keep it. Less muscle means a lower metabolic rate, increased insulin sensitivity, and easier fat gain. 💪

Pair that with undereating, and you're in a perfect storm. Chronic dieting doesn't just burn fat — it burns muscle too. And the less muscle you have, the fewer calories you burn at rest, which means you have to eat even less just to maintain your weight.

This is why crash dieting follows the same pattern every time: early loss, plateau, regain — and you end up with more fat and less muscle than when you started. Not your fault. Just how the body works. 🔄

Rapid drops in blood glucose overnight can trigger a cortisol and adrenaline response.
This can show up as waking between 2–3am feeling alert or wired.
It’s not always just hormonal — blood sugar stability plays a role.

Eating 1,000 calories and still not losing weight? Your body isn't broken. It's protecting you. 👇

Your metabolism isn't a calculator — it's a survival system. When you eat too little for too long, your body downshifts to protect you. 🛡️

Resting metabolic rate drops. Thyroid output slows. You subconsciously move less. You feel cold, constipated, bloated. Cortisol rises — and high cortisol means more fat storage, especially around the belly, more cravings, worse sleep, and muscle breakdown.

This is called metabolic adaptation. It's not a flaw. It's your body doing exactly what it's designed to do. 🧠

Muscle acts as a key site for glucose disposal.
Building and maintaining muscle improves insulin sensitivity, reduces blood sugar spikes, and supports metabolic health long-term.

Walking is great for general health, but it’s not enough to significantly improve insulin sensitivity in this phase.
Resistance training helps muscles absorb glucose more efficiently — even without weight loss.
