This is such a relief...
In a SA first, AMOS will provide Uninsured or Self-funded patients having Bariatric Surgery with free insurance to cover all unexpected costs that may crop up in in the first month after surgery (to a maximum of $15,000).
This covers people who might need to stay in our private hospital longer than anticipated, or people who might need to pop back into Calvary Day Surgery for an endoscopy or an infusion for example, will incur no extra costs even though they do not have private health insurance. It will also cover the costs should Uninsured patients need to visit the Calvary private ED for a check-up or a scan in the first 30 days after surgery.
How good to know your AMOS doctor will look after you in private, without the worry you might be sent to a public hospital because of cost considerations.
This just cements the enviable reputation AMOS have enjoyed for over 20 years of diligent, personal care. AMOS stick with you no matter what.

The results are in & looking good!
In the last 24 hours, two major publications have been released with important long-term data on the safety and effectiveness of Bariatric Surgery.
You can read the whole article below but here are the important points:
- One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (mini-bypass) has the best weight loss (35% total body weight loss after 5 years).
- Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy has the lowest complication rate.
- Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is inferior to One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass in every respect (less weight loss and higher complication rate).
- Resolution of diabetes was excellent.
- Endoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy weight loss is no better than intra-gastric balloon and inferior to weight loss medication.
- Endoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy is no safer than Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy and only half as effective.

If you would like to explore the option of Bariatric Surgery you can call AMOS on 08 84656300 or email at [email protected]

What a great team we have at Calvary Adelaide Hospital. The peroperative nurses always provide a seamless service. We are lucky to have them and couldn’t do without them!

Perioperative nurses specialise in caring for patients before, during, and after surgical procedures, and here at Calvary Adelaide we have around 400 staff members working in this area.

This year we are proud to have teamed up with University of South Australia to offer this group of specialist Perioperative Nurses x20 scholarships to further their knowledge and skills in this area. We believe that investing in our staff is crucial to continuing to offer outstanding patient care, along with fulfilling careers for our people. More on this exciting initiative to come!

Today we celebrated Perioperative Nurses Week with sweet treats for our team – a small (and delicious) token of our big thanks.
