When energy demand exceeds dietary energy intake, a negative energy balance may occur and may result in hypothalamic dysfunction and alterations in gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) pulsality, leading to menstrual abnormalities, particularly among physically active females who train at a high intensity frequently.
Anecdotally I see too many women eating 1200 calories daily or below! This has catastrophic impacts on libido and hormone health.
