Something I've been working on lately after reading The Daily Stoic is how much energy I spend worrying about things I can't control.⠀
⠀
It's easy to get caught up in other people's choices, opinions, behaviours, or situations that aren't ours to fix. But the more we focus on things outside of our control, the more drained and frustrated we often feel.⠀
⠀
What we can control is how we respond.⠀
⠀
This has been a helpful conversation to have with my kids too. If someone is distracting you in class, you can't control what they're doing, but you can choose how you respond. You might ignore it, move seats, or ask a teacher for help.⠀
⠀
If someone is being unkind, you can't make them behave differently. Getting upset or trying to force them to change usually doesn't work. What you can do is choose how much space you give their behaviour, how you look after yourself, and what actions you take next.⠀
⠀
It's not about pretending things don't bother you. It's about putting your time and energy into the things that are actually within your control.⠀
