We’re proud to see our consultant Jade Lewington returning to WA Rural Health—this time as an experienced clinician delivering workshops in assistive technology and communication supports.

From student placement to sector leader, Jade’s journey reflects the power of ongoing collaboration in strengthening access and outcomes for regional communities.

There is something special about seeing former students return as colleagues and leaders.

We were delighted to welcome Jade Lewington from Link Assistive by Tobii Dynavox back to the WA Centre for Rural Health of The University of Western Australia, delivering workshops and consultations in Geraldton focused on assistive technology and communication supports for community members and allied health professionals.

Jade was one of the first speech pathology students to complete a semester-long final-year placement in 2015. More than a decade on, she’s returned as an experienced clinician—sharing her expertise with those who once taught her.

As WACRH Senior Lecturer and speech pathologist Kathryn Fitzgerald reflects:
“One of the great privileges of working in rural health education is seeing students grow into skilled professionals and leaders. It’s inspiring to stay connected with our alumni who become our colleagues, collaborators and friends, continuing to make a difference in rural and remote communities.”

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Neale Daniher AO.

His strength, resilience and tireless advocacy changed the landscape of MND awareness and research in Australia, leaving a legacy that will continue to make a difference for years to come.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and the entire FightMND community.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Neale Daniher AO.

Neale was a true MND warrior — courageous, determined and relentless in his fight against this devastating disease. Over 10 years ago he co-founded what would become FightMND, creating a movement that has invested over $117 million in MND research. His vision and tireless efforts have accelerated progress towards a cure and given hope to thousands of families affected by MND.

Through his advocacy, leadership and unshakable spirit, Neale brought MND into the national conversation, ensuring many more Australians understand its impact. His extraordinary legacy was fittingly recognised when he was named the 2025 Australian of the Year.

On behalf of MND Australia, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Neale’s family, friends, and the entire FightMND community. His passing is a profound loss, not only for those who knew him personally, but for every Australian whose life has been touched by MND.

Vale Neale — Australia has lost a hero.
