Have you heard that NDIS plans are changing? 💙

A lot of families have been asking us what the changes mean. So we’ve made an Easy Read guide to help.

It explains in plain words, with pictures:

✅ What is changing
✅ What is staying the same
✅ What you can do when your new plan arrives
✅ Where to get help

Easy Read means short sentences, big text and a picture for every idea. It’s made so the people we support can read it themselves, or with someone they trust.

📄 The guide is in the pictures below. Please save it, print it or share it with someone who might need it.

If you’d like to talk about your plan, we’re here.

Where do you want to be in life?

It's a big question. It's also yours to answer, not your support worker's, your provider's, or anyone else's.

Most of us get to ask it without thinking twice. People with intellectual disability are too often handed a plan before anyone has asked what they want.

So here are two questions worth sitting with:

1. Where do I want to be in life?

It might be living more independently. A job, or a skill to learn. Friends and a social life. Cooking your own meals, catching the bus, managing your own money. Big or small, it counts.

2. What supports do I need to get there?

This is the part where the right help makes the difference. Support should be built around the goal, not the other way around.

At United Abilities, we specialise in supporting people with intellectual disabilities. We start with you and your goals, then work out what support will help you get there. Through programs like our Life Skills Program and Rise & Shine mentoring, we help people build real skills and confidence.

You don't need to have all the answers to start. Just come with the questions.

🎲 Building real-world skills, one quest at a time.

At United Abilities, we've added Dungeons & Dragons to our capacity-building programs for people with intellectual disability — and the research supports what we're seeing in the room every week.

Tabletop role-playing games like D&D give players a structured, low-pressure way to practise skills that can otherwise be hard to build: taking turns, following multi-step instructions, working as part of a team, making decisions, and speaking up in a group. A recent systematic review of tabletop role-playing games as a therapeutic tool found participants were able to "practice social roles and skills at their own pace," with measurable gains in communication and cooperative decision-making. As our own program has shown, that structure — clear rules, a shared goal, and a supportive Dungeon Master guiding the story — makes it easier for participants to engage, contribute and grow in confidence.

For the people we support, that translates into practising negotiation, teamwork, problem-solving and self-advocacy — all inside a fantasy adventure that feels like play, not therapy. Many participants tell us it's a place where they feel genuinely capable and included.

As a registered NDIS provider in the Adelaide region, we're proud to keep evolving our services in line with the sector's shift toward genuine, evidence-based capacity building — including our new counselling and employment support (Finding and Keeping a Job) services.

Want to know more about our D&D program or refer a participant? Get in touch — we'd love to have them join the party.

Thursday Games & Hobby Nights. Friday Social Group. Saturday Soccer and Basketball.

Our group activities are where friendships start. People with intellectual disability come together each week in small, supported groups to try new things, build confidence and enjoy each other's company.

Every group is planned around what the people in it want to do, with staff who know everyone by name.
