How grief actually moves through the body.

The metal element in Chinese medicine governs grief, self-worth, belonging, and letting go.
It lives in the lungs and large intestine.

When grief is unprocessed the body holds it.
Skin flares.
Sleep breaks at 2-3am.
Breath gets tight.
A low persistent heaviness.

When grief is held and witnessed in the body, not analysed, not rushed, just held, something softens.
The breath finds room.
The system settles.
Grief is not a problem to solve.
It is a process to move through.

There's a topic. There's a practice. There's space to be wherever you actually are that week, not wherever you wish you were.

Some weeks people arrive regulated.
Some weeks they arrive in the middle of something.
Both are welcome.

That's what a nervous-system-safe community actually feels like.

The hard thing about nervous system work is that you can't think your way into it.

You can understand it.
You can read about it.
You can identify patterns in yourself with remarkable clarity.

And still β€” the body runs the old loop.

That's not a failure of insight.
That's physiology.

The loop is stored at a level that insight doesn't reach.

This is why I work the way I work.
Body first. Always.

Your child isn't being difficult.
Their nervous system is overwhelmed.

There's a difference.

When a child can't get through the school gateβ€”
when the clothes feel unbearableβ€”
when sounds are too muchβ€”

That's not behaviour.
That's a body in a threat state.

It looks like defiance.
It feels like defiance.
It isn't.

The capacity isn't missing.
The filter is.

And there's so much that can be done to help build it.

The GROUND Method starts with G β€” Ground.

Not because grounding is the simplest step.
Because nothing else can happen without it.

When the nervous system doesn't feel *safe,* the deeper work β€” the regulation, the observation, the integration β€” can't land.

The body is too busy scanning for threat.

So before strategy, before clarity, before change:

Ground first.
Safety first.

Everything else follows from there.

**A 60-second practice to try now:**

Feet flat on the floor.
Let your eyes slowly scan the room β€” not searching, just noticing.
Name 3 things you can see that feel neutral or safe.
One slow breath, longer exhale than inhale.
That's it. That's the beginning.

There's something that happens in the Grounded Calm space that I didn't fully anticipate when we started.

People arrive. They share what's been happening in their body, their week, their nervous system.

And then, even before I say anything, they say: oh. That's what that was.

Something about being in a room with other people doing the same work makes the work easier to hold.

That's the thing I keep watching.

When I follow a belief all the way down in a session β€” past the behaviour, past the explanation, past the story β€” here's what's usually waiting at the basement.

I'm not lovable.
And if I'm not lovable, I'll be alone.

That belief runs a lot of behaviour.
Shopping.
Relationships.
Over-giving.
Self-denial.
Perfectionism.
All of it.

The entry point is always something small.
A spice rack she hadn't bought.
A pair of pants that didn't fit.
A holiday she'd been putting off.

The work goes deep.
And it changes things.

This is the work I do.

Same life. Different nervous system.

That's what regulation actually looks like.

Not a perfect week.
Not all the circumstances finally going your way.

The same pressures, the same family, the same weatherβ€”
And a body that isn't bracing against all of it anymore.

It surprises people when it happens.

They expected to feel better when things got easier.
Instead β€” things got easier because they felt better.

That's the work.

Here's the belief chain hiding underneath that:

β†’ "I'm wasting money"
β†’ "I'm being selfish"
β†’ "If I'm selfish, I'm a bad person"
β†’ "If I'm a bad person, I'm not lovable"
β†’ "If I'm not lovable, I'll be alone"

That's not a budgeting issue.
That's a nervous system story running in the
background of every financial decision you make.

The surface behaviour is never the whole story.
The basement belief is what's running the show.

This is the work we do.
Not the surface behaviour β€” the root belief.
And when the root shifts, everything above it
shifts with it.

She came in like always.
Same work pressure, same relationship dynamics, same external life.

But something had shifted.
Her business coach had noticed.
Her partner had noticed.
She had noticed, but wasn't quite ready to trust it yet.

Same life. Different nervous system.

That's what real regulation looks like.
Not fixing the circumstances.
Changing how the body moves through them.
