Kinda suss. Kinda questionable.

There are so many things women are told to just accept as “normal” — leaking when you run, painful periods, pelvic pain, prolapse, painful s*x, changes through perimenopause… the list goes on.

But common doesn’t automatically mean normal. And normal doesn’t mean you have to put up with it.

Women deserve to understand what’s happening in their bodies, know their options and have access to the right support — whether that’s pelvic floor rehabilitation, exercise modification, a pessary, or simply getting the right person to listen and investigate what’s going on.

So, let’s start questioning some of the things we’ve been told to just live with.

What’s one women’s health “kinda suss” you’d add to the list? 👇

Think a sled is just for getting your heart rate up? Think again.

And yes, while we may have used a physio as resistance for demonstration purposes, the sled actually has a pretty serious role in strength and performance training.

From a physiotherapy and performance perspective, the sled is a versatile tool for developing strength, power and speed, while being easy to scale to the individual.

STRENGTH
Heavy sled pushes and drags can develop high levels of lower-limb force without requiring complex lifting technique.

POWER
Reduce the load and focus on moving the sled as explosively as possible. This shifts the focus towards producing force quickly.

SPEED AND ACCELERATION
Resisted sled work can help develop horizontal force production and acceleration, providing a way to progressively build running capacity.

REHAB TO PERFORMANCE
One of the biggest advantages of the sled is that it can follow someone throughout their rehabilitation journey.

Controlled loading → strength → power → acceleration → speed → return to sport.

So while we don’t recommend using your physio as sled resistance, we do recommend using the sled for much more than just making you tired.

Whether you’re rebuilding after an injury, improving athletic performance or working towards becoming stronger and faster, there’s a lot more to sled training than meets the eye

SPECIAL MENTION | ALLIED HEALTH PRACTITIONER OF THE YEAR

A huge congratulations to our incredible Women’s Health & Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist, Brianna, who has received a Special Mention for Carpentaria’s Allied Health Practitioner of the Year at the NTPHN Health Professional of the Year Awards.

Since joining Red Centre Health Focus, Brianna has been instrumental in expanding access to women’s health and pelvic floor physiotherapy across Central Australia, providing care to women who have historically had limited access to these services.

We are incredibly proud to see Brianna’s dedication, expertise and commitment to improving women’s health recognised in this way.

Congratulations, Brianna — this recognition is so well deserved!

We’re very lucky to have you as part of the Red Centre Health Focus team.

We almost didn’t post these photos.

Not because we’re not proud of where we are now…

but because looking back at where we started is a pretty emotional reminder of how far we’ve come. 🥹n

In 2023, it was a small space, one reformer and a big dream.

Today, we have a purpose-built rehabilitation gym that allows our physiotherapists to provide comprehensive care across pain management, injury rehabilitation, exercise therapy, strength, movement and functional recovery.

But the transformation you see in these photos?

We didn’t build it on our own.

You did.

Every person who booked an appointment.

Every client who trusted us with their recovery.

Every person who referred a friend, family member or colleague.

Every local who chose to support our business.

Every person who walked through our doors and allowed us to be part of their journey.

You helped us grow.

And that's what makes this space so special.

It isn't just a bigger gym.

It represents what can happen when a local community supports a local business that genuinely cares about the people it serves.

We are incredibly proud to provide comprehensive physiotherapy right here in Alice Springs — and even prouder that this journey has been shaped by the people who call this community home.

So if you've been with us since the beginning…

thank you.

If you've joined us somewhere along the way…

thank you.

And if you've only just found us…

welcome.

We can't wait to show you what's next!

Today was all about community, connection and getting stronger together!

Matt and Agustin had a fantastic day at the Seniors Expo, meeting so many wonderful people and putting strength and balance to the test!

We also loved introducing our new program The Balance Project — a physiotherapist-led program designed to help people stay strong, steady, confident and independent as they age.

Days like today are a great reminder of why we do what we do. Being part of our community isn’t just about what happens inside our clinic — it’s about getting out there, connecting with people and giving back.

A great day, plenty of laughs, some impressive strength scores and lots of inspiration!

Tendinopathy is a hot topic right now 🔥

But what does it actually feel like?

It can be more than just “pain in the tendon”. You might notice stiffness, tenderness, aching or pain with loading—and sometimes it changes depending on how much activity you’ve been doing.

Swipe through as we break down what tendinopathy is and why load and proper recovery matters.

Have you experienced tendon pain before? 👇

THE TEAM HAD TO TEST IT FIRST… OBVIOUSLY

The hype around our new gym has been UNREAL — and of course, before putting all the new equipment to work with our clients, the team had to get hands-on and learn how to use everything safely!

From trying out all the new equipment to figuring out how we can best incorporate it into rehabilitation, our physios have been getting familiar with each piece so we can confidently tailor programs to each individual client.

There may have also been a little bit of… competitive behaviour and a lot of fun!

The team is ready, the gym is ready, and we're excited to keep putting our new space to work!

It's Seniors Month, and just 1 week until the Seniors Expo!

Come and visit the Red Centre Health Focus stall and discover how you can stay active, independent, and moving with confidence.

Here's what you can experience on the day:

⚖️ Test your balance and see how you compare.

💪 Challenge your grip strength and learn why it's one of the best indicators of healthy ageing.

Discover where you sit with our functional assessments. If you're curious about your strength, mobility, balance, or overall physical function, our physiotherapists will be available to explain what the results mean and how you can keep moving well.

Be among the first to learn about The Balance Project—our brand-new physiotherapist-led exercise program designed for older adults, people recovering from injury, and those living with chronic disease. The program combines land-based exercise and hydrotherapy to improve balance, strength, mobility, confidence, and overall wellbeing, helping you stay active for life.

Living with a chronic health condition? Chat with our team about our collaboration with the Northern Territory Primary Health Network. If you're eligible, you may be able to access physiotherapy through a referral from your GP, and we'll happily explain the process.

Whether you're looking to improve your balance, reduce your risk of falls, stay active, or simply learn more about healthy ageing, we'd love to meet you.

📍 Visit the Red Centre Health Focus stall at the Seniors Expo.

See you there!
