Our fab Board member, Hannah Muir, of Deep End Counselling, is co-facilitating this lovely event for parents during the Red Dirt Poetry Festival next Friday 21st August at the Alice Springs Community Garden.

What stories about becoming a parent did we inherit, and what truths did we discover for ourselves? Join poet Eleanor Jackson and counsellor Hannah Muir for a gentle gathering exploring the realities of matrescence and the journey to parenthood through poetry, reflection and conversation.

Together we’ll make space for the often-unspoken experiences of caregiving: love and grief, tenderness and rage, joy and exhaustion. Through poetry readings, guided writing and a collaborative poem, participants are invited to reflect on the stories they were told about life with babies and small people and how those stories compare to lived experience.

No writing experience is needed, and sharing is always optional. Come as you are. Morning tea provided.

Did you know that it's World Breastfeeding Week this week? This is me breastfeeding my second son. My breastfeeding journey started two years before this photo was taken, with my oldest son. I'm struck by how easy it looks in this picture. What's not pictured here: ni**le pain, blocked ducts, milk blebs, mastitis, low supply, b**b refusal, bottle refusal... and all the support I got from my partner, my friends, and my wider community - including Birth and Beyond. Growing a baby takes a village, and at Birth and Beyond we are here to help parents who breastfeed, or bottle feed, in any way we can. We loan out books on breastfeeding and bottle feeding, we have breast pumps for hire to help boost supply, we run antenatal breastfeeding workshops (next one on 8th September!) - but most importantly, we have a safe space where you can come and feed your baby, however you do that, and connect with other parents who are on the journey with you. Big love to all the breastfeeding parents, all the bottle-feeding parents, all the parents who might want to breastfeed but can't - we see you!

Our incredibly talented Birth and Beyond Board member Jac Marriott has created this beautiful one-woman show about her journey birthing her twins. Freefall is a love letter to midwives, a tribute to healthcare workers and an homage to the families who unexpectedly find themselves navigating the NICU.
