Back pain is one of the most common reasons people visit their GP, and while it often improves within a few weeks, it can have a significant impact on your mobility, independence and quality of life.

The good news is that staying active, maintaining a healthy weight and keeping your back strong can all help with recovery. Prolonged bed rest is rarely recommended, and gentle movement is often one of the best treatments.

If your back pain isn’t improving, is affecting your daily activities, or is accompanied by symptoms such as numbness, weakness or problems with bladder or bowel control, it’s important to seek medical advice.

🛠️ August is Tradies National Health Month

Whether you’re on the tools every day or managing a busy worksite, your body is your most valuable piece of equipment.

Tradies are at a higher risk of developing muscle and joint injuries because of the physical demands of the job. Looking after your health isn’t just about getting through today, it’s about keeping you doing the work you love for years to come.

If something doesn’t feel right, don’t push through it. Early treatment can often prevent small issues from becoming long-term injuries.

1 to 7 August | World Breastfeeding Week 💙

Breastfeeding can provide babies with the nutrients they need in their early months while also supporting their immune system and healthy development. Every family’s feeding journey is different, and it’s important that parents have access to the support and information they need to make the choices that are right for them.

If you have questions about breastfeeding, feeding challenges or your baby’s health, our GPs are here to help or can connect you with the right local support services.

Learn more about World Breastfeeding Week and this year’s campaign:

World Breastfeeding Week is held in the first week of August every year, supported by WHO, UNICEF and many Ministries of Health and civil society partners.

Feeling down from time to time is normal, but ongoing sadness, loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed, changes in sleep or appetite, or withdrawing from family and friends are not just a normal part of getting older.

Depression can affect people at any age, including older adults, and the good news is that support is available. Recognising the signs early and talking to your GP can make a real difference.
