🏠 Connecting, Learning and Collaborating for Better Housing Outcomes 🏠

RFQ team members recently attended the Queensland Homelessness and Housing Conference in Cairns, bringing together housing and homelessness professionals from across Australia to explore solutions to the current housing crisis.

The conference provided valuable opportunities to learn from sector leaders, share knowledge, and strengthen partnerships focused on delivering person-centred housing outcomes for Queenslanders.

We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with peers, exchange ideas, and contribute to conversations that support positive change across the housing and homelessness sector.

Growth can happen quietly, one step at a time, until one day you look back and realise just how far you have come. 🌱

At RFQ, we have been privileged to support Jacqueline on her recovery journey through ongoing case management, connection with mental health supports, and building confidence to engage more independently with her community.

Throughout her journey, Jacqueline has shown incredible resilience and determination. With continued support from her Case Manager and Psychiatrist, Jacqueline has successfully progressed to extending her depot injections to every three months, reflecting the positive stability she has worked hard to achieve.

Jacqueline has also become increasingly resourceful and independent in accessing services and supports, including health care, hearing support, employment services, and community resources. One of the biggest achievements has been her growing confidence in accessing the community with significantly reduced anxiety compared to the past.

Her journey highlights the power of persistence, connection, and personalised support in recovery. Jacqueline is now looking ahead to her next goal of regaining her driver’s licence and continuing to build independence and wellbeing for the future. 💚

Recovery is not a straight line. It is built step by step, connection by connection, and supported by community every day. 🌱

Over the past months, RFQ has supported Kris on his recovery journey by developing a personalised recovery and safety plan, connecting him with counselling, rehabilitation, financial supports, and community programs that aligned with his goals and wellbeing.

Through determination and consistent support, Kris has worked hard to maintain sobriety, strengthen family relationships, reduce anxiety, and build confidence in navigating new situations. Along the way, he has embraced new interests including terrarium making and horticulture, turning personal passions into future possibilities.

Kris has also taken important steps toward employment and independence, volunteering while recovering from injury and securing a local nursery position to begin after completing rehabilitation. He is now exploring horticulture studies for 2026 to further grow his skills and career opportunities.

Community connection has played a huge role in this journey, with involvement in local gardens, martial arts programs, counselling supports, and volunteer opportunities helping to build social confidence and meaningful networks.

We are incredibly proud of the effort Kris has put into his recovery journey and grateful to the many organisations and community groups who have walked alongside him. 💚

National Sorry Day is not only about remembrance. It is about truth-telling, healing, listening and meaningful action. As this year’s theme reminds us, we must move “From Sorry to Action”.

We take time to reflect on the painful history and injustice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families, cultures and Country, and the ongoing impact this continues to have across generations.

Today, on National Sorry Day, we acknowledge the strength, resilience and enduring spirit of Stolen Generations survivors, their families and communities.

We stand alongside First Nations peoples in the journey toward healing, reconciliation and justice.

Earlier this week, RFQ was proud to be involved in a Schizophrenia Awareness Week event hosted by Karakan 💙

It was a meaningful opportunity to come together, share conversations, raise awareness, and continue breaking down stigma surrounding schizophrenia and mental health. It was great to be part of such a worthwhile event.

🙌🏼Good News Story to Share🙌🏼

Kay has been navigating an incredibly difficult period, including the loss of her husband, recovery from a stroke, ongoing health challenges, and living with chronic pain.

Through all of this, she has continued to take small, steady steps forward.

With support, Kay began attending the Toowoomba Women’s Shed, initially just coming along for a morning tea while building her confidence. Over time, she started sewing with support, learning new skills and becoming more familiar with the space.

More recently, Kay has taken an incredible step, attending independently as a volunteer, even on different days with new groups of people. She has been creating handmade items, including aprons, and contributing in a meaningful way.

While she continues to navigate her grief, Kay has shared that she is beginning to feel a sense of hope for the future and growing confidence in managing on her own.

A reminder that small steps, taken consistently, can lead to something really meaningful. 💛
