Withdrawal in relationships isn't always about disinterest. It can be a trauma response, underlying anxiety, or fear. This protective mechanism, though aiming to reduce stress, can unintentionally escalate tension. It's a gender-neutral dynamic, not exclusive to any one gender.

It's incredibly painful to be the one who understands and works on everything, only for your partner's nervous system to associate closeness with danger. Love isn't always enough to feel safe for them. When they pull away, it's protection, not rejection. Their silence isn't indifference; it's a learned response.

When one partner craves connection and the other withdraws due to anxiety or past trauma, it creates a painful cycle. Both feel utterly alone, trapped in a loop of unmet needs.

When empathy crosses the line into caretaking, intimacy suffers. Feeling like a mother or caretaker, not a lover, shifts the dynamic. True partnership thrives on mutual care, listening, support, and spontaneous joy, not one-sided burden.

Healthy love doesn't ask you to shrink or silence your voice. It thrives when both partners can be authentic, connected, and have their needs honored. That's where true safety is found.

Silence doesn't always mean dramatic events. Sometimes, it's the slow, quiet moments of self-abandonment. Downplaying your needs, explaining away distance—these actions shrink the space for your own emotional experience. You learn to put your longing on the back burner, forgetting you also need to feel safe. The relationship shifts from connection to mere endurance.

🌏 Is it harder to be a parent now than it was in the 80s?
Short answer: Yes.
Back then, parenting was simpler—not necessarily better, but less aware. Now we carry so much knowledge: trauma, regulation, attachment, neurodiversity… and that awareness can feel heavy.
We're bombarded with info on what to do, what not to do, and how we’re never doing enough.
💡This episode is your gentle reminder that you're doing the best you can, and parenting in 2025 is a mental marathon.
Let go of the pressure to be perfect. You’re not alone 💛

🍷🧠 ADHD & Alcohol — let’s talk about it.
If you’re neurodiverse and have ever thought:
“Why can’t I stop once I start?”
“Why does drinking feel like relief?”
“Why do I feel so much shame the next day?”
This episode explains why binge drinking is more common in ADHD brains — and why it’s not a character flaw.
We explore the science behind dopamine, emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, time blindness, and why alcohol can feel like the perfect (but temporary) solution.
This is a shame free, evidence based conversation for mums who want understanding — not judgment.
