1470 nm versus 1940 nm in EVLA: wavelength is only part of the equation

The 1470 nm and 1940 nm wavelengths both target water, but 1940 nm has greater water absorption. This can permit operation at lower power settings, depending on the laser system and procedural protocol.

Greater absorption, however, should not automatically be interpreted as clinical superiority.
Published literature indicates that thermal energy distribution differs between 1470 nm and 1940 nm, but there remains limited evidence of a clinically significant difference when treating incompetent saphenous veins.

Meaningful clinical comparison should consider:

• Vein diameter and wall thickness
• Applied power
• Linear endovenous energy density
• Fibre geometry
• Pullback technique
• Laser-to-fibre compatibility
• Long-term ablation outcomes—not only early postoperative findings

Medisol’s portable GBOX platform can be configured with 1470 nm, 1940 nm or combined 1470 + 1940 nm wavelengths, allowing clinicians to select a system appropriate to their workflow and intended application.

🔵 Laser fibre safety: before and after use

Safe fibre handling begins before laser connection—and continues after energy delivery.

Before use:

✅ Confirm that the sterile packaging is intact, unopened and within expiry.
✅ Inspect the fibre for visible damage, sharp bends or kinks.
✅ Check that the connector and distal quartz cap are clean and intact.
✅ Confirm compatibility between the fibre, laser system and applicable Instructions for Use.

After every procedure:

✅ Inspect the withdrawn fibre and introducer/sheath.
✅ Confirm that the fibre has been removed completely.
✅ Check that the distal tip and quartz cap remain intact.

This routine equipment-integrity check supports procedural documentation and complements the clinician’s procedural and post-treatment assessment.

Any unexpected finding should be managed according to the applicable Instructions for Use and the facility’s established protocol.

🔵 More configuration options within one compact platform.

The Medisol G‑BOX is available in a 1470 nm single-wavelength configuration or as a dual 1470/980 nm system.

For EVLA workflows, Medisol also offers compatible radial and bare fibre options in 400 µm and 600 µm core diameters, with a 3 m fibre length.

The selected wavelength, fibre configuration and procedural parameters should be determined by the treating clinician according to the intended application, system compatibility and applicable Instructions for Use.

📩 Contact Medisol to discuss current G‑BOX configurations, compatible fibre options, availability or demonstration information.

For appropriately trained healthcare professionals. Always read the label and follow the applicable Instructions for Use.

🔵 What does active segment length mean?

In a VeinCLEAR™ RF catheter, the active heating element is the section that delivers thermal energy to the treatment site while relaying temperature information to the compatible generator.
Depending on the catheter configuration, VeinCLEAR heating-element lengths range from 1 cm to 7 cm.

A shorter or longer active segment should not be considered better in isolation. Catheter selection should account for the intended application, catheter profile, access configuration, generator compatibility and the treating clinician’s procedural plan.

Before use, confirm the selected catheter model is compatible with the VeinCLEAR™ V‑700, inspect the sterile packaging and review the applicable Instructions for Use.

📩 Contact Medisol for available catheter profiles, active-segment lengths and system compatibility.

💧 1940 nm or 1470 nm? Why choose only one?

As EVLA technology continues to evolve, 1940 nm is attracting increasing attention due to its higher absorption in water. Recent clinical studies suggest that it may achieve effective vein ablation using lower power and lower LEED, while maintaining excellent occlusion rates.¹²

At Medisol, we believe innovation should give physicians more choices—not more limitations.
That's why both our GBOX and VELAS laser platforms are available with a dual-wavelength configuration:

🔹 1470 nm – 15 W
🔹 1940 nm – 7 W

One platform. Two wavelengths. The flexibility to choose the technology that best fits your clinical preference and your patients' needs.

Because every procedure is different—and your laser platform should be ready for all of them.

✨ AVOID THE TRAP: DEVICES THAT ONLY WORK WITH SPECIFIC CONSUMABLES ✨

When purchasing medical equipment, we often focus on the initial cost, but there’s a sneaky trap in the medical device market that we tend to overlook: The device may seem affordable at first, but consumables can trap you in an expensive cycle!

❌ The device works only with consumables from a specific brand!
💰 Finding alternative consumables from different brands is nearly impossible, leaving the price completely in the hands of the vendor. These prices are often higher than necessary.
⏳ Over time, this situation reduces the profitability for clinics and doctors!

🚨 HOW TO AVOID THIS TRAP? We offer you open system, cost-effective, and innovative solutions. Medisol helps clinics and doctors break free from this trap by offering freedom of choice!

✅ Proven-effective, lightweight, and portable laser devices compatible with different consumables, used in over 100 countries worldwide!
✅ Freedom of choice without being dependent on a single brand!
✅ Cost-effective innovations that ensure long-term profitability!

🦵 Varicose Veins: More Than a Cosmetic Concern

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted superficial veins in the legs. They often cause no serious problems, but some people may experience aching, heaviness, cramping, itching or swelling—particularly after prolonged standing.

⚠️ When should you seek medical advice?

• Increasing pain or persistent swelling
• Darkening, eczema or hardening of the skin
• A vein that becomes red, hot, hard or tender
• A wound near the ankle that is slow to heal
• Bleeding from a varicose vein

Possible complications can include varicose eczema, venous leg ulcers, bleeding and superficial thrombophlebitis.

Sudden one-sided leg swelling or pain—particularly with chest pain, shortness of breath or coughing blood—requires urgent medical assessment, as these may indicate a blood clot.

Family history, pregnancy, ageing, excess weight and prolonged sitting or standing can increase the likelihood of developing varicose veins.

Not everyone with varicose veins requires treatment. Consult your GP or a qualified vein specialist for an individual assessment.

This information is general and does not replace professional medical advice.
