Winter viruses are already circulating across the community, and it’s not just the flu. RSV, COVID-19, colds, and other respiratory viruses tend to increase during the cooler months, especially in schools, workplaces, and busy indoor spaces.

Simple habits can make a big difference in protecting your family early:
✔️ Wash hands regularly
✔️ Stay home when unwell
✔️ Keep up with recommended vaccinations
✔️ Cover coughs and sneezes
✔️ Prioritise sleep, hydration, and healthy meals

If symptoms linger, worsen, or you’re concerned about vulnerable family members, it’s important to seek medical advice early.

A little prevention now can help reduce illness this winter. Call (07) 3888 9676 or book online via our website.

Happy International Receptionists’ Day 💚

Today we’re celebrating the amazing team behind the front reception desk at Ashgrove Family Practice — Renee, Ivy, Aditi and Kellie 💚

They are the friendly faces who welcome you, the reassuring voices on the phone and the people who help keep our GP practice running smoothly behind the scenes every single day.

Our incredible reception team goes above and beyond to support both our patients and doctors — from coordinating appointments to creating a warm and caring experience from the moment you get in touch. They even make sure our doctors are fuelled with a hot coffee and bikkies each day so they can stay focused on what matters most — caring for our wonderful patients and community.

They’re there when you call to book an appointment, reminding you when it’s time to attend, helping organise referrals, keeping you updated about cancellations and assisting with the countless little things that make a big difference each day. They offer support when someone is upset, open doors when hands are full with prams or wheelchairs and greet everyone with a smile when they walk through our doors.

Receptionists truly are the backbone of any practice and today we celebrate these everyday heroes and all that they do.

Thank you for your kindness, patience, dedication and everything you do behind the scenes. We appreciate you today and every day! 💚

Nobody has time for the flu.

Protecting yourself with a flu vaccination is a simple step that can help reduce your risk of serious illness this season.

Free flu vaccines are now available for patients aged 5–64, with government-funded vaccines for other eligible groups expected in April.

All Queensland residents over 6 months of age are eligible for a free flu vaccination, including those without a Medicare card.

If you are unsure about your eligibility or due for your vaccination, our team is here to help.

Heat exhaustion vs heat stroke and knowing the difference matters.

Heat exhaustion may present with heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, and fatigue. It’s the body’s warning sign that it is struggling to cope with the heat.

Heat stroke is more serious and requires urgent medical attention. Symptoms may include confusion, a high body temperature, and little to no sweating.

Staying well hydrated, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and taking regular breaks in cooler environments can help reduce your risk.

If you are concerned about heat-related symptoms, our team is here to help.
