🥶 🥵 WONDERING WHETHER THE WEATHER IMPACTS YOUR PAIN? 🥵🥶
It’s been lovely to see some of the sunshine starting to return lately! ☀️ But with the change in season, and in particular the “cusp” of seasons, often comes and increase in people’s soft tissue related ailments 😩
When warm and cool days can alternate, weather systems change quickly, and atmospheric conditions change too - this means some people notice increases in pain, stiffness, swelling, headaches, inflexibility, muscle tension and joint symptoms that are about as unpredictable as the weather! ☔️ ☀️
Changes in barometric (atmospheric) pressure, allergens, temperature and humidity may influence how sensitive our tissues and nervous system feel. For some people, these subtle shifts may mean changes in:
🔸Inflammation and fluid balance
🔸Histamine activity and allergy-related symptoms
🔸Muscle tension, flexibility and function
🔸Joint stiffness and sensitivity
🔸The way their nervous system processes pain
The recent cooler weather can also make us to move differently. We may become less active, tense our muscles, change our posture, or spend more time sitting or couching - all of which can contribute to increased stiffness and discomfort.
That said, the relationship between weather and pain is complex, and everyone responds differently. Weather may not be the cause of your pain, but it can be one of several factors that influences how your body feels on a particular day.
If you’ve noticed that your symptoms tend to flare when the seasons change, it may be helpful to track your pain, activity, sleep, stress and changes in weather patterns.
