a nourished mother is a nourished baby and a flourished postpartum.
planning for your postpartum is just as important as planning for your birth.
I must admit I definitely did not plan for my postpartum with my twins. I was way to focused on navigating twin pregnancy and birth and I neglected my postpartum. looking back this heavily impacted my postpartum, not in the early days but months down the track. I was depleted because I didn’t set up my village or prioritise nourishing myself first.

this postpartum was very different and these are the things I did to ensure I was set up for a successful fourth trimester:
🌼 freezer full of warm nourishing meals for me and my family
🌼 fridge full of one handed snacks for me
🌼 REST - yes easier said then done when you have other children which is why I followed the 555 rule (first 5days in bed then 5 days on the bed and then 5 days around the bed)
🌼 a big insulated drink bottle with with a straw to keep me hydrated (added .co for extra hydration)
🌼 stocked up on to support me
🌼 my husband arranged 6 weeks of leave from work
🌼 regular visits to the chiro for bodywork for me and bub
🌼 gathered my village. these are the people I know would always be there to help with the little things (grabbing things needed from the shop, dropping meals, play dates with my twins, phone call away if I needed to vent).

photo no.1 is from today when my beautiful beautiful neighbour delivered me a freshly baked hot cross bun while I was napped trapped.
our fourth trimester may have ended but I am still prioritising rest and nourishment.

how did you plan for your postpartum?

if you are wanting support for pregnancy or postpartum I’m excited to be opening my books again in the coming months. keep an eye out for my updated offerings 🤍

those post birth feels, made even more blissful being on my own couch with my family close by. I felt safe, nurtured and so empowered almost so I could do it all again.

HBAC was not just healing for me but for my husband too, seeing how calm and proud he was the whole time made me feel relaxed and allowed me to focus and stay instinctively in my zone.

a positive birth experience doesn’t just positively impact the mother but the whole family too.

that proud doula hospital selfie!

last week I supported a mama birth her twins and it was bloody incredible. she birthed them exactly how she wanted and I am so proud of her!

there were times where if she was not aware of how to advocate for herself or have her dream team around advocating for her, her birth could have gone a completely different way.

the language that was used to explain possible risks to my client was disgusting and I could not believe what I was hearing but we were very prepared for this to happen. I asked this person if they believe in physiological birth because my client needs to know her birth team trust her ability to birth her babies the way she wishes, this person didn’t like this question but it was clear it made her rethink the words she was using and the direction she was trying to go.

my client being the powerhouse mama she is then kindly told this person that she will leave if she doesn’t trust her ability to birth her babies how she wishes. it was the conversation we needed to have in order for my client to birth her babies how she wished and how her body knows.
to see these people in the room then stand back and use their greatest skill (that is so often forgotten about) of observing a women rather then looking at a screen was so awesome to see and I know that this birth really reminded them of a women’s power and ability when left undisturbed.
it was a super empowering moment!
it’s a tiny step in the right direction of the change we need.

with the birth trauma enquiry going on this has really got me thinking about all the women that get spoken to with this language daily and that there is never going to be a change unless our system changes.

we don’t need women to be better educated or better advocate for themselves we need a system that treats women better.

hello,

I’ve had a little break from this space and supporting mama’s. I’ve been busy finishing my bachelor of nursing degree and holding space for my little ones while they transition to preschool.

I’m excited to be back and supporting women and families this year and provide some exciting new offerings.

I am now open for bookings but with limited spaces of birth doula support. I will have new offerings supporting families transition into parenthood as I complete my graduate cert in child and family health in the near future.

you won’t see me too much on socials as it’s just not for me but please know I am here and if you or anyone is looking for doula support please reach out.

love, elise 🤍

world breastfeeding week 2022

I acknowledge this week is hard for some, I acknowledge that every feeding journey is different and that fed is always best no matter the journey but let’s not forget to honour and celebrate our bodies for the blessing it is to nourish our babies with our beautiful bodies.

This years theme is about showing how we can step up and restore breastfeeding support through educate and support.
let’s continue to talk about our journeys, achievements and celebrate our bodies and support each other as we all know breastfeeding is not easy.

my breastfeeding journey with my twins came to end only 2 weeks ago, I at 22 months with a little encouragement they decided to self wean 🙌🏼. I already miss these special moments but I am so grateful for this blessing.

if you are looking for feeding support here are my favourite local professionals:

postpartum care this morning for a beautiful client in her beautiful home.

I arrived with a basket full of nourishing food, open ears and arms and left with a full heart (and the bonus of lots of beautiful citrus fruit from her garden).

It brings me so much joy to see my clients absolutely glowing and transitioning so beautiful into motherhood.
