After the winds we had last weekend, we arrived back on site to find this tree had fallen across the creek.
At first, the kids were disheartened as the tree had landed right where we usually observe the eel that lives in the creek.
But rather than seeing it as a problem, it quickly became a problem to solve.
We talked through the risks, discussed what precautions we needed to take, found a ratchet strap and got to work.
What might look like a simple task was actually a great learning opportunity. There was teamwork, communication, trial and error, problem solving, persistence and plenty of hard work.
And the outcome? It looked a little different to what we had initially imagined, but ended up being even better.
We now have another way to access the far side of the creek, and the best part is that it was a team effort. Everyone had a role to play, ideas to contribute and a part in making it happen.
It wasn’t something we had planned for the day. It came about organically, followed curiosity, and it ended up being one of the highlights of the day.
Sometimes, the best learning opportunities are the ones you don’t plan for.
