As we take a moment to reflect on the past few weeks, it seemed fitting to pause and acknowledge what an honour it was to care for Roy and his family.
For me personally (Robin), this farewell held special meaning. As both Funeral Director and Celebrant, I had the privilege of spending time with Roy himself as he made arrangements following his decision to access Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD). Later, I sat with his grandson, Jason, to continue planning the day and ensure Roy's wishes would be honoured exactly as he intended.
Those conversations gave me the opportunity to learn about the man behind the stories, his values, his humour, and what mattered most to him. They also reinforced the importance of creating a farewell that was authentic and personal.
Roy's service at Plantation Park was one of those services that will stay with us. Surrounded by family, friends, stories, laughter, and heartfelt memories, it was a beautiful reflection of a life well lived. Most importantly, it was exactly how Roy wanted to be remembered.
To Roy's family, thank you for allowing us to walk beside you and for trusting us with the care of someone so deeply loved. It was an honour to help create a farewell that was uniquely Roy.
