Ever rolled over in bed and suddenly felt like the whole room was spinning?

It could be Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo or BPPV - one of the most common causes of vertigo.

BPPV occurs when tiny calcium crystals in the inner ear become displaced, causing brief episodes of dizziness or spinning with certain head movements. The good news is it can often be assessed and treated in the clinic using:
- Dix-Hallpike Test to identify the affected side
- Epley Manoeuvre to reposition the displaced crystals

For many people, symptoms can improve significantly within just a few treatments.

If you’re experiencing dizziness when rolling in bed, looking up, bending down or changing positions, it may be worth getting assessed!

With the Tour de France capturing the world’s attention over the past few weeks, we thought it was the perfect time to highlight some of the most common cycling injuries we see 🚴‍♂️

Whether you’re training for your next event, commuting to work or simply enjoying weekend rides, pain doesn’t have to be “part of cycling.”

While every cyclist is different, understanding these common conditions can help you recognise problems early and keep you on the bike.

Remember, these are general guidelines only. If your symptoms are persistent, worsening, or limiting your riding, it’s worth getting assessed to identify what’s driving your pain and develop an individual management plan!

One of the biggest parts of rehab isn’t just getting stronger when dealing with sport related injuries, it’s learning how to slow your body down.

We spend a lot of time working on eccentric strength and deceleration drills to help your muscles absorb force and control movement when you land, cut, or change direction.

You wouldn’t drive a car without brakes!

Tyson has been putting in the work, and it’s paying off. After building his “braking system,” he’s now back running and making great progress toward returning to full sport 💪

Load vs Capacity ⚖️

As we are all enjoying watching the World Cup ⚽️ what often goes unnoticed are the physical demands these athletes tolerate every match.

Covering 10-13km, repeated sprints, explosive changes of direction, collisions, and 90+ minutes of competition under fatigue.

These athletes have spent years adapting to the demands placed upon them. One of the most important concepts in injury prevention and rehabilitation is understanding the relationship between load and capacity.

⚽️ Load = what your body is being asked to do
⚽️Capacity = what your body is prepared to tolerate

Problems can arise when load increases faster than capacity can adapt. The goal isn’t to avoid load. The goal is to progressively build capacity so your body can tolerate the demands you place upon it.

Stay strong, stay fit, and keep your body prepared for the demands of life and sport.

If you’ve been experiencing pain, stiffness, or an injury for longer than 3 months, you may be eligible for a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP).

A GPCCMP is arranged through your GP and can provide a Medicare rebate towards eligible Physiotherapy appointments, helping reduce your out-of-pocket costs.

Common conditions that may be considered include:
• Neck and back pain
• Arthritis
• Shoulder pain
• Knee pain
• Tendon injuries
• Persistent foot and ankle pain
• Post-surgical rehabilitation

Your GP will determine whether you meet the eligibility criteria and, if appropriate, provide a referral for Physiotherapy.

If you’re living with ongoing pain or injury, speak with your GP to find out whether a Chronic Condition Management Plan may be suitable for you 💪

New research published in BJSM highlights the positive impact exercise can have on musculoskeletal pain and disability during the postpartum period.

Postpartum recovery is about more than “getting back” - it is about rebuilding strength, confidence and function in a way that supports long term health. 💪

The evidence continues to show that appropriate exercises can help reduce:
✔️ Lower back pain
✔️ Pelvic girdle pain
✔️ Movement limitations
✔️ Physical reconditioning postpartum

Every postpartum journey looks different - but movement, education and support matter 🙌
