It is important to take a day to rest when you need time to regenerate.

Today, Ginny is taking a mental health day to rest, recharge, and look after her own wellbeing. 🐾

It is a reminder to us all that self care is essential.

Although Ginny is staying home today, we would like to remind you that the Walking Group is still going ahead as planned! We'd love to see you there for some fresh air, friendly conversation and connection.

Thriving with ADHD - Self Compassion

Living with ADHD can sometimes make you feel like you're falling short, especially when it comes to meeting daily expectations. This can lead to feelings of shame, frustration and sadness.

Practicing self compassion is an adaptive way of combatting negative feelings associated with external misunderstandings, stereotypes and blame.

Thriving with ADHD - Emotion Regulation

Those with ADHD are more likely to experience understimulation and overstimulation, which can significantly influence emotions.

These zones and their emotional impacts are:

- Overload, characterised by heightened anxiety
- Overstimulation, which can cause stress
- Calmness, which leads to engagement
- Understimulation, often a lack of motivation

Thriving with ADHD - Executive Function

Executive functioning is important for thinking critically, flexibly and creatively to reach our goals. It also helps us to plan, focus and multitask.

Individuals diagnosed with ADHD are advanced in areas such as creativity and passion, but often have fewer resources in executive areas, which can result in feeling overwhelmed.

To support executive function with ADHD, it is important to:
- Support working memory
- Monitor thoughts, behaviours and emotions
- Practice helpful organising and planning strategies

Thriving with ADHD - Self-Regulation

What is emotional dysregulation?

Cognitive, behavioural and emotional dysregulation can occur in day-to-day life whenever we are feeling stressed, anxious or overstimulated.

Dysregulation can make it difficult to concentrate on tasks, managing time and organising our ideas.

It is important to self regulate when:
- The environment is overly stimulating
- You must conserve your resources
- There are many environmental distractions

Simple steps such as playing background music, taking a movement break and removing clutter are helpful self-regulation strategies.

What is a Sensory Assessment?

A sensory assessment explores how your brain responds to sensory information. This can be beneficial for individuals who want to learn more about their sensory preferences and learn skills to support regulation.

How your sensory profile matches the environment has a strong impact on how we feel, think and behave in everyday life.
