Do you find ever find yourself holding on to tension that your 'logic' brain doesn't have a reason for and that you would rather not be holding onto? Well, I can safely say that you are not alone!
Keep Caltech's research from last year in mind. It suggests that we can think at about 10 bits per second, but that our nervous systems probably handle up to a Billion bits of information per second.
That means, there is a whole bunch of stuff that we are not aware of, that our nervous systems are managing, some of which it might find threatening. It's amazing that we can respond to these threats, without even being aware of them. Although, sometimes they aren't always really all that dangerous.
In practice, that often means a body up, rather than a mind down approach to relaxing can be helpful. So we can send calming signals to our nervous system and encourage it to feel safe. In the right circumstances, it can be more effective than using thoughts and mindsets, especially when they are unaware of the perceived threats. Or worse, when bringing them to mind is too stressful.
Come and send some calming, body based signals to your nervous system.
