How many times have you heard yourself saying “I had a Caesarian ‘because…’”?

I’ve heard Mums repeat that line hundreds of times, with various endings, and usually with sprinkle of shame or sadness on top 😕.

And it makes me wonder - is the ‘because’ for you, or for ‘them’?

Did you feel that you ‘had’ to justify a reason?

Did you worry that they’d judge you if you didn’t throw in a ‘why’ for having a surgical birth?

Did you feel in some way, that other people would think your birth wasn’t ’good enough’?

I know that back in the early days, I did.

I felt like I needed to prove, in some warped way, that a Caesarian was my only choice, that I ‘couldn’t help it’.

And I hated that.

I’ve gotten much better in being proud of my births, and I try to inspire and educate all of my Caesarian Mums to do the same.

Let’s drop the ‘because’, and the feeling that we need to explain our story.

If you want to, sure, but don’t feel that you HAVE to.

I Had A Caesarian

is a full sentence.

And however your baby was born - you did it. You got through it. And you are incredible, no matter what.

And I .

⭐️ Emily’s Birth Story…

I am thrilled to share this lovely lady’s words over on the birth blog today…

Em is a Mum of 2, clever accountant, and a much loved member of our Pilates studio .

I was so glad she reached out to share her words, especially considering how healing and fulfilling her second birth turned out to be.

Scroll through for the highlights, or head to the blog on our website for more details.

Thank you so much for opening up and sharing your birth stories. I know you wanted it to help other Mums feel informed and supported - and I think it does just that.

(If YOU have a C-section birth story you’d like to share with the world, please get in touch!)

Unplanned. Emergency. Necessary….

Often times, this kind of birth carries a big weight of trauma and emotion for Mums.

An experience that didn’t unfold out how they’d imagined.

A birth story that feels foreign and maybe even a little disappointing….

Your next birth does not have to feel like your first 🥺.

I’ve recently had the privilege of chatting with a few second time Mums, who opted for a planned Caesarian birth, after a really negative experience first time around.

The way they have described their births is completely different.

These Mums have so happily described the positive and uplifting experiences of their planned Caesarian births.

They spoke of feeling calm. Prepared. Supported.

They spoke about feeling empowered, instead of frightened.

About finally feeling seen, heard and involved in the experience.

And for many of these Mums, this second birth, ‘even though’ it was a Caesarian, it felt deeply healing.

Whether your next birth is vaginal or Caesarian, a beautiful birth experience is definitely possible after trauma.

The difference between that first birth, and subsequent births, can be astronomical.

If I was Having A C-Section Tomorrow…

I’d be packing compression!

Tubigrip is my go-to recommendation for compression in the early days.

Comfy.

Easy to get on and off.

Cheap.

Washable.

Not too tight.

What’s not to love?!

Did you use compression after your C-section birth? What worked for you?

💜 In an ideal world, after a C-Section, our bodies would heal perfectly.

The different layers of tissues that are impacted during the surgery would go back to sliding and gliding on top of each other, and we wouldn’t experience any of the common scar complaints afterwards…

Post-surgery adhesions affect so many women after C-section - and often, we don’t even think to link our symptoms, to the small little scar on our belly…

If your scar is causing you grief, or the symptoms above sound familiar, starting targeted C-Section Scar massage is the best way to improve the look, feel and movement of your scar.

For guidance on how to get started with your own scar massage, comment SCAR, and I’ll send you the link to read more about my new Scar Recovery guide.
