How many times have you heard yourself saying “I had a Caesarian ‘because…’”?
I’ve heard Mums repeat that line hundreds of times, with various endings, and usually with sprinkle of shame or sadness on top 😕.
And it makes me wonder - is the ‘because’ for you, or for ‘them’?
Did you feel that you ‘had’ to justify a reason?
Did you worry that they’d judge you if you didn’t throw in a ‘why’ for having a surgical birth?
Did you feel in some way, that other people would think your birth wasn’t ’good enough’?
I know that back in the early days, I did.
I felt like I needed to prove, in some warped way, that a Caesarian was my only choice, that I ‘couldn’t help it’.
And I hated that.
I’ve gotten much better in being proud of my births, and I try to inspire and educate all of my Caesarian Mums to do the same.
Let’s drop the ‘because’, and the feeling that we need to explain our story.
If you want to, sure, but don’t feel that you HAVE to.
I Had A Caesarian
is a full sentence.
And however your baby was born - you did it. You got through it. And you are incredible, no matter what.
And I .
