Newborn nappies: a few things every new parent should know 👶🧷
Here are some practical newborn nappy tips:

👶 More expensive doesn’t always mean better. In the newborn stage, fit is far more important than price.

👶 Every brand fits differently. Don’t be afraid to try a few until you find one that suits your baby.

👶 A wet nappy doesn’t always need an immediate change if your baby’s skin is healthy and they’re comfortable. But a 💩 nappy should be changed promptly to help prevent nappy rash.

👶 Baby poo changes quickly! It starts as dark meconium, then becomes greenish before turning mustard yellow once your milk comes in and baby is feeding well. 💛

👶 Poo tells us a lot. In the early weeks, frequent yellow poos are a reassuring sign that baby is getting enough milk. Breastfed baby poo can be watery, seedy, or contain little white curds—all completely normal. It shouldn’t be firmer than toothpaste.

👶 Wet nappies matter too. Cloth nappies make urine output easier to assess, but with disposables, get into the habit of feeling the weight of the nappy in your hand during those first couple of weeks. You’ll quickly learn what a “good wet nappy” feels like. The wetness indicator line is helpful, but it doesn’t tell you how much urine is actually there. 😉

Sometimes it’s the simple things that give us the best clues about how a newborn is feeding and thriving. ❤️

Cassie will be heading off on a very special new chapter — preparing for the arrival of her baby and relocating to the UK for the year.

We are so grateful for the care, commitment, and compassion she has brought to our team and our patients during her time with us.
Thank you, Cassie, for everything you’ve contributed. You will be missed, and we wish you every happiness, health, and success for the journey ahead. ❤️

🌙 Nocturnal newborns… the default setting! 🤷‍♀️👶

If your newborn seems to come alive the moment the sun goes down, you’re not doing anything wrong. And no, they don’t have their days and nights “mixed up”!

In fact, this is often perfectly normal newborn behaviour.

We will go through why, and strategies for this time as new parents in zoom class coming up 😊
