We now have Shockwave Therapy available in Myotherapy at Modern Medicine.

Shockwave is a non-invasive treatment that delivers targeted acoustic waves deep into muscle tissue, breaking down scar tissue, stimulating blood flow and accelerating the body's natural healing process.

It's particularly effective for chronic muscle pain, tendon injuries, and areas that haven't responded well to other treatments. If something has been lingering for a while, shockwave gives us another tool to get to the root of it.

AI therapy chatbots are free, available 24/7, and millions of people are using them. Here's what a psychologist wants you to know.

There are things AI can genuinely help with, like low level support, journaling prompts, or psychoeducation. But there's a real risk people use it to avoid the harder work, becoming an enabler rather than a solution.

Where it falls dangerously short is risk assessment. A chatbot only knows what you type into it. It has no clinical judgment and cannot read between the lines. There have been real cases of people being led further into crisis by AI, not away from it.
Clinical judgment, emotional intuition, and the ability to sit with someone in a difficult moment cannot be replicated by a chatbot.

AI has a role. But if you're genuinely struggling, please speak to someone who can actually help.

10 minutes beats 30 if you do it right.

Recent research comparing a leisurely 30 minute walk to a 10 minute brisk walk found that the group walking at a moderate intensity for just 10 minutes had greater cardiovascular benefits than those walking for three times as long at a slower pace.

You don't have to train like an athlete to look after your heart. Short, intentional movement done consistently is enough to make a real difference.

When your child refuses food, it's rarely just fussiness.

Fussy eating is often linked to sensory hypersensitivity. Some children's brains process sensation more intensely, and food is full of it. Texture is the most common trigger, and it's also closely linked to autism spectrum disorder and tactile sensitivity.

Trauma plays a role too. Something as common as choking on a food at a young age can rewire how a child's developing brain relates to eating entirely.

Understanding why is the first step to helping them. Cassidy, our Paediatric Dietitian at Modern Medicine, works with families to get to the root of it.

The minimum dose of exercise has changed, and the answer might surprise you.

A recent position statement from the Australian College of Sports Medicine confirmed that any amount of exercise is beneficial. There is no perfect time to start, and you don't need a full hour at the gym to see results.

Even 10 minutes of moderate intensity exercise can lower blood pressure, reduce glucose levels, improve cardiorespiratory fitness and benefit your mental health. Lisa calls these exercise snacks.

For anyone juggling work, kids, school drop offs and everything in between, that might look like a 10 minute walk on your lunch break, parking a little further from the office, or turning it into a group activity with colleagues.

Start small. Start now. Any amount counts.

Meet Steve, one of our Psychologists at Modern Medicine in Ballarat.

In this session Steve is walking through phases 4 to 7 of EMDR therapy. EMDR works by activating the brain's memory and emotional processing systems, helping to create new neural pathways from the midbrain to the prefrontal cortex, while taxing the working memory to create distance from traumatic memories.

Steve uses both tactile stimulation with a buzzer and bilateral stimulation to guide the process, making it one of the most effective evidence-based approaches for processing trauma available in Ballarat.

If Lisa, our Exercise Physiologist, had to choose one thing to improve your health, it would be strength training.
And the research is hard to ignore. Strength exercise benefits people with heart conditions, diabetes, osteoporosis, dementia and reduces falls risk. It builds a buffer for the stages of life where your body becomes a little more vulnerable.
That process starts earlier than most people think.

Finally understanding why you've always felt a little... different.

For a lot of adults, an ADHD or Autism assessment isn't just a diagnosis. It's answers. It's finally making sense of the way your brain has always worked, and having a starting point for real, practical support.

ADHD and Autism assessments are now available at Modern Medicine, led by our Clinical Psychologist Emma. The process is comprehensive, strengths-based, and designed to give you clarity, not just a label.
