Being part of your union means support, protection, and a stronger collective voice.

Great to see LWB Disability Support Workers engaging with their union - the Community & Public Sector Union CPSU New South Wales.

"Education is power, and as an Organiser, itโ€™s incredibly rewarding to see members feeling informed, confident, and empowered. Sharing updates on the benefits of membership and safe workplace practices really makes a difference," said CPSU NSW Organiser Alex Sala.

The new TAFE NSW Delegates Committee (DC) met on Tuesday and Wednesday this week for training and the election of the new DC executive along with discussion around whatโ€™s happening in the workplace.

On Thursday, the Fair Work Commission facilitated an Interest Based Consultative Committee (IBCC) meeting between TAFE NSW and CPSU NSW to discuss issues affecting TAFE workers. Discussions focused on worker types (flex, rostered, and standard hours) to support reaching agreement ahead of bargaining for the next Enterprise Agreement.

By focusing on collaboration, transparency and problem-solving, the forum gives CPSU NSW members a voice and helps ensure changes are informed by the people who deliver TAFE services every day.

Strong consultation matters. So does having a strong union voice at the table.

At the University of Sydney, that means that our Enterprise Bargaining team have years of exposure to Professional Staff issues, both through our own experiences and through the experiences of the Professional Staff members we regularly support and assist.

We're active and have been quietly improving Professional Staff working conditions across many enterprise bargaining cycles. This bargaining round, our members are focused on issues including improved workplace change provisions, increased flexibility and limits on AI.

While bargaining is in its early stages, weโ€™ve already tabled new and changed leave clauses. Moving forward, weโ€™re also bargaining for improvements to conditions which impact professional university staff differently - resourcing of professional development, frequency of workplace change processes, fair payment for overtime and on-call work, and more.

Delegates and organisers from across the country came together in Sydney this week for a national Non-Custodial Corrections Union Leadership Conference, hosted by the CPSU SPSF Federal Office.

The conference brought together members working in community corrections, probation and parole, and related roles.

The training created space to step back from day-to-day pressures and focus on the bigger picture. Union members shared experiences across jurisdictions, mapped the system nationally, and identified the common challenges facing the workforce โ€“ from workload pressures and staffing shortages to privatisation and fragmented service delivery.

Across three days, participants worked through key issues including wages and conditions, qualifications, WHS and psychosocial hazards, data gaps, and the risks of outsourcing.

The conference built on similar federal CPSU conferences for custodial officers and child protection workers โ€“ identifying where we can build collective strength, coordinate across branches, and push for system-wide change. Bringing branches together like this strengthens our union and ensures workers' voices are heard at a national level.

Troy Wright, Assistant Secretary came by to welcome the delegates from across Australia and talk about the experiences of NSW (e.g. he spoke about NSW branch campaigning around workloads)

Welcome to our four new members who joined this week at an Aruma Disability Services Group Home in Goulburn.

The CPSU NSW Organiser Shane attended their team meeting and gave a report to members on Enterprise Bargaining and the increasing pressure on budgets.

Shane also spoke about the increasingly capricious nature of disciplinary proceedings within the disability sector, something more DSWs are becoming aware of and how they need to protect themselves with union membership.
