It’s time to provide the evidence that Politicians and the handful of opponents to our campaign don’t understand the true travel times to the new hospital.
1. Ambulances are allowed to travel 10 to 15 klms over the speed limit provided it’s safe
2. The exact measurement from Batemans Bay CBD to the new hospital is 29 klms but;
3. The distance from Bay CBD to Glenella roundabout is 3 kms but has 50 & 60 speed limits
4. The distance from Glenella roundabout to Mogo is 6 klms with speed limit 90 Klms
4. Travel through Mogo is 3 klms and includes, 40, 60, 50 & 80 speeds limits
5. From North Moruya industrial area to the new hospital is 6 klms and includes speed limits 80 & 50 klms PLUS the narrow 2 lane bridge over the river
6. It has now been measured under lights and sirens observing the NSW Ambulance directive of only 10 to 15 KLMs over speed limits the best case result from Bay CBD to new hospital cannot be done under 29 minutes
6. Also, if a local ambulance is available from there Surfbeach depot it’s 8.5 klms in 50, 60 and 80 speed limits. Sometimes you will need to wait for a Moruya or Narooma ambulance
7. If you live north of Clyde River it can be up to an additional 30 minutes each
Hopefully that now gives everyone a clear and accurate understanding of travel

Question to all NSW residents
Do you think the current NSW Government has a secret plan to close all Level 2 Hospitals and emergency departments that are within half hour of another Hospital?
Are they using Batemans Bay as a test case?

Here is an accurate summary of what Batemans Bay residents have lost from our Hospital and Emergency Department since Michael Holland arrived approx 20 years ago;
- Maternity removed
- Operating theatre gone
- Cardiac monitors gone
- High Dependency beds gone
- X-ray reduced service
- Pathology is only basic on site
- 32 hospital beds reduced to 24
- overflow car parking blocked by the new community health building under construction but currently providing services in the current hospital footprint
- a massive number of life saving items donated by our hard working Ladies Hospital Auxiliary worth possibly $millions
And NOW his campaign is aiming to close everything including hospital and emergency department
Only you can decide if this is acceptable for a community of 20,000 residents that has had massive growth in past decade and forecast to continue to grow
Lives will now potentially be lost when we are forced to travel an additional 30 to 90 minutes to the new Hospital south of Moruya

I will let you, the reader, to decide if people not affected by their decision to close Batemans Bay Hospital Emergency Department are either affected by memory loss or simply lie;
1. We recently received a written response from Michael Holland who again stated the decision to close Batemans Bay Hospital was made after “extensive community consultation “. However, neither he nor Southern Area Health can provide any details including dates, venues and number of attendees…….dementia or lie??
2. A number of opponents to our community campaign state the travel time to the new hospital for Batemans Bay is only 12, 15 or 20 minutes. We have timed from our CBD under lights and sirens and it is 29 minutes…dementia or lies??
3. Opponents state you can’t have 2 hospitals within 25 to 30 minutes. We have in the past supplied numerous examples of hospitals in country NSW within this distance or less. Again, dementia or lie??
FINALLY, our campaign has always supported the new Level 4 but not as a trade off to close our life saving emergency department

We receive regular reports of Batemans Bay Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) not either opening or reduced hours. It’s happened again today. How can an UCC replace an existing ED and save lives ????? It simply won’t

Well done Milton Ulladulla residents in having a local Health District service that recognised the need for a local emergency department plus investment in upgrades - a town of similar size to Batemans Bay getting what they deserve - a 24/7 Emergency Department maintained
Meanwhile the count down to the closing of our Hospital is getting closer with the potential for loss of lives

Why don’t the decision makers who don’t live in Batemans Bay and aren’t affected by our closure have the guts to admit a mistake has been made. Massive growth in Postcode 2536 that has clear signs of continuing but they continue to bury their heads in the sand. A lot has changed in the past 6 years and we need our Emergency Department to remain open 24/7 that will support the new Moruya Level 4 hospital and save lives at triage in an acceptable time line
