Alpha-gal is a tick-triggered allergy to red meat that can cause hives, swelling, digestive upset, and in severe cases, anaphylaxis. Managing this allergy is challenging because avoiding red meat and related products is often the only strategy.
Recent reports suggest that ear acupuncture may help some patients reduce or even achieve remission of symptoms. In one observational study, 96% of participants experienced significant improvement after a course of ear acupuncture treatments.
Acupuncture is thought to help regulate the immune system, reduce inflammation, and support the body’s natural balance. While this method shows promise, it is still considered complementary and should not replace medical guidance for serious allergic reactions.
Patients with alpha-gal should continue to work closely with their allergist, carry emergency medications if prescribed, and discuss any complementary therapies before starting them.
