parkrun 🥰
There are many joys associated with being a parkrun enthusiast.
Hanging out with Jenn and her incredible group of volunteers and Saturday morning athletes rates fairly high.
Today turned 10! So along with the other benefits of being invited along to celebrate is the fab arrangement of cake (and mulled wine for those with the morning, post-run stomach for it)
Congratulations to Jenn and the whole team of Bathurst parkrun on really doing their community proud for now over a decade through the magic of parkrun

review
I've carried a little more load these past two weeks as I seek to improve my overall training pattern. It's become obvious to me as I review what I'm doing versus say what was going on before just how little I pushed my hard work days.
Not to say I didn't try running faster over shorter distances. But my general pattern seems to have been more like random threshold preferences without connecting with higher quality, pacier work.
Today I pushed myself into 10x 30 secs of pressure. Focus on form equally as much as pace. Very happy with how this workout made me feel.
Having to trust the process, but can see versions of running me I know I can be.

Two Wolves

The bad wolf
time for this run not what I hoped for

The good wolf
enormously successful in feeling and acting strong ......in my whole run........
patience shown when the leaders broke off
consistency keeping them in sight most of the run
review of stats shows I kept the effort going ......even when I got tired......

Why does the bad wolf get so MUCH voice
for such LITTLE reason?

Today I took some cushion shoes out on a long run to clear the negative voice. It wasn't ruling my brain, but it was whispering to my doubt monster.
Thankfully I've cleaned up my thoughts and ready to keep trusting my changes. In the meantime I've remembered how lovely it is to just run long

trust
Today the legs were extremely heavy on that recovery run
And today is where I have to rely on my change of schedule over what my instinct/brain/heart wants.
You see, off my half marathon plan I was getting confused between working with my fitness and working against my running improving. I could feel my fitness levels growth and thought that would be enough.
So before my plan changed, I might have taken a day like today a little harder. Try to push and force change. I've got a day off, the weather is lovely and I slept well.
I think the two issues I was ignoring were that I wanted to back that up into a fast parkrun day (threshold or above) and I wasn't really getting quality out of the overall run I might have done today.
I worked hard yesterday. Got more out of it. And that was thanks to my other change of schedule moving that hard day. So it stands to reason recovery is what I need.
Feeling positive about the whole thing. Let's see how it rolls

Change
When I took an honest review of my typical running week there were a couple of changes I felt could help me move closer to my goal paces for not only a parkrun Saturday but also for my next primary event (mount panorama punish)
In a nutshell, long runs made longer and a simple midweek shift of focus to better take advantage of hard working runs.
I'm going to try this for a bit, with the aim of shifting my speed on the parkrun days to better reflect the pace of runner I feel I can be.

parkrun
Today we are back at home and out in the vollie vest doing some barcode scans.
Wandered out on course during the first lap to sneak a few photos also. Caught here in position by another photographer out on course.
When we got back to the house I went out and put together a threshold 5k to ensure I keep my intention straight.
Happy parkrun day all

frosty
It was pretty cold when I started out yesterday on my long run Sunday. The bureau reckoned minus 5 even at sunrise, the backyard gauge thought more like zero. But it had been near freezing for a very long patch overnight meaning there was a bit of frost about. Thermal gloves, the gortex shoes, woollen toe socks and long compression weather.
I've been turning over a running problem in my head recently. I feel super happy with my fitness levels and I'm running enough (but not too much). However I'm not regaining speed as I'd hoped over mid-range distances. The conclusion I've come to makes a tweak to my typical weekly exercise pattern to maximise both my recovery and paced sessions.
I guess we will see how that goes. But I'm always happy to accept that any plateau in my performance (particularly where it feels like it could be much improved) is due to my routine as the primary issue.
Hopefully I'm reporting back better results in the coming weeks. .

Mona's Fartlek
Kinda like progressive intervals where you try desperately not to kark it as the recovery gaps get smaller.
There's been the odd drop of rain recently, so the track threw up some dirt.

patience
Today I ran in the lovely rain, a heady mix of sensible temperature, enough energy combined with a good night sleep.
As you age as a runner, in my opinion it's simply not enough to keep on getting faster. It is better to be strong and capable as you can be for the journey.
Over the weekend, an experienced athlete told me without prompt nor any good reason they were impressed by my form and consistency as we passed.
I recall quite vividly early on in my running wanting to look fast whenever someone saw me. Whatever that meant.
Now I'm sitting with a glow based on those comments that had nothing to do with fast.
Confucius might not have expressed it better
