🌞🧴 Big news from AFM Skin Cancer Centre — we’re moving soon! 🎉

From little things, big things grow.

After opening our Skin Cancer Centre in September 2025, we quickly outgrew our space, and we’re so excited to share that we’ve secured a new home at 25 Argyle Street, next to the hospital. Renovations are already underway as we expand our skin cancer services. 🏗️✨

This means more space, more doctors, and better access for skin checks and treatments — helping us reduce wait times and care for even more people across Hobart. 🩺💙

With Tasmania having some of the highest rates of skin cancer in the country, improving timely access to care is something we’re truly passionate about.

👀 The build is already happening behind the scenes, and while it’s a little messy right now, we can’t wait to show you what’s coming.

✨ In the meantime, we’re still taking new patients for skin checks, with appointments available now at our current clinic at 25 Davey St.

💉🦠 Flu Vaccines at Australian Family Medical! 🦠💉

Flu season is just around the corner — we have flu vaccines available for everyone aged 6 months and over at AFM 😄

For your convenience, flu vaccinations can be booked during any available time slot with any of our doctors. Simply book via our HotDoc link 💪

👶🧑‍🦳 Who should have a flu vaccine?
It is recommended that everyone aged 6 months and over receives a flu vaccine each year.

✨ Who gets a government-funded flu vaccine?
Eligible groups include:
👶 Children aged 6 months to under 5 years
🧓 Adults aged 65 years and over
💙 People with at-risk medical conditions
🤰 Pregnant people (at any stage of pregnancy)
🧡 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over

💰 If you don’t fall into these categories, private flu vaccines are available for just $20.

📅 Why book early?
Flu immunity takes a few weeks to develop after vaccination, so it’s best to get protected before the flu starts circulating widely. Immunity is strongest for 3–4 months after vaccination.

Flu season usually runs from June to September (peaking in August), so April and May are ideal times to get vaccinated.

🩺 Flu clinic appointments are bulk billed — the only cost is for the vaccine itself (if you’re not eligible for a free one).

💜 Purple Day 💜

Today we wore purple (and enjoyed some purple cupcakes 🧁) at AFM to raise awareness of epilepsy.

This is something that touches our team personally, with one of our staff members having a child with treatment-resistant epilepsy. It’s a reminder of how important awareness and understanding really are.

A small way for us to acknowledge a condition that affects many families in our community.

10,000 Tasmanians cared for 🎉

In just over 18 months, more than 10,000 people from our community have now walked through our doors and trusted our team with their healthcare. 💚

Each of these patients represents a story — newborns coming in for their very first check-up, patients arriving worried and leaving reassured, difficult conversations, good news, and many consultations filled with relief — and with plenty of laughs along the way.

We've loved helping our community and building relationships with all 10,000 of you. Every day we’re reminded that being a GP clinic is about much more than medicine. It’s about being part of people’s lives and part of a community.

To every Tasmanian who has trusted us with their care — thank you. 💚

This milestone makes us so proud to look back at where we've grown from; two sibling GP's with a shared dream to make a different type of GP clinic. From ripping out old flooring, renovating, our first trip to officeworks, to now having served 10,000 Tasmanian's — what a journey! 💚

We’re incredibly proud to be part of this community and are pleased to still be welcoming new patients as we continue caring for the people of Hobart in the years ahead.
