Meet Emma 👋

Originally from country NSW, Emma somehow balances life between TPS, the Royal Hobart Hospital, mentoring physios, writing TPS blogs, and being President of the Hobart Toy Library.

She’s passionate about helping people better understand their bodies and pelvic health, creating a supportive, judgement-free space where no topic is too awkward.

Emma has a special interest in complex pelvic health presentations and loves helping people get back to living active, fulfilling lives 💛

Outside of work you’ll find her gardening, exploring Tassie, wrangling two kids, or caring for the family’s increasingly assorted collection of pets 🐓🐶🪴

Cost of living is a lot right now and it can feel like everything adds up quickly 🤍

Looking after your pelvic health does not have to mean spending more. Often it is about prevention and getting more value from what you are already doing, with small, practical changes that support your body day to day.

Whether that is making your coffee habits a bit more bladder-friendly, building simple routines that support your gut, or checking if your private health can be used for classes you are already paying for, it all adds up.

There is also so much advice online, but quick fixes are not taking into account your medical history, lifestyle, or personal preferences. Even if they are evidence-based, they are not tailored to you, which often means lower adherence, less effective outcomes, and more trial and error over time.

Simple, consistent habits and the right guidance for your body are what make the difference and help keep things cost-effective in the long run ✔️

Constipation in kids is common and it does not always look the way you expect

Here are some signs to watch for 👇🏼

💩 Hard, dry or very large poos
💩 Going days without a poo
💩 Straining or saying it hurts
💩Withholding behaviours like tiptoe standing, leg crossing, hiding or insisting they do not need to go
💩 Frequent small poos or loose stools
💩 Tummy aches or bloating
💩 Skid marks or poo accidents
💩Bedwetting or daytime wee accidents
💩Sudden regression with toilet training

Even regular pooing does not always mean the bowel is emptying well. A backed-up bowel can affect both bladder and bowel control 💩

At The Pelvic Studio, our paediatric physiotherapist can assess your child, identify if constipation is contributing, and provide practical strategies to support healthy bowel habits.

Early support can make poos more comfortable, reduce accidents, and help your child feel confident and back on track.

If you are unsure, it is always worth checking 🤍 💩

💛 Supporting Little Bodies (and the Grown-Ups Who Care for Them) 💛

Toileting concerns are something many families quietly navigate. Bed-wetting, constipation, daytime accidents, or difficulties with toilet training are incredibly common for children, yet they can feel overwhelming for both kids and their parents.

At The Pelvic Studio, our Children’s Continence Service is here to provide gentle, supportive care for children aged 3 to 16 who may be experiencing these challenges.

Our service is led by physiotherapist Hannah Richardson, who works closely with families to understand what is happening for each child. Every child is different, and so is their journey. Through compassionate guidance, education, and practical strategies, we help children learn how their bodies work and build the skills they need to feel more confident and in control.

These concerns often affect more than just toileting. They can influence a child’s confidence, sleep, school experiences, and everyday family life. The good news is that with the right support early on, many of these issues can improve significantly.

Our goal is to help children feel
✨ Comfortable in their bodies
✨ Confident in their abilities
✨ Supported by the adults around them

We also support parents and caregivers with the knowledge and reassurance they need along the way.

If you are navigating any of these concerns with your child, please know you are not alone. Help is available.

If you would like to learn more about our Children’s Continence Service, drop us a 💛 below and we will be in touch.
