We're Excited to Share Some Wonderful News!

We're delighted to announce that Aishah Mohammed has commenced her Master of Clinical Psychology at Macquarie University while continuing to support clients at Creating Change Psychology. This is an exciting milestone in her professional journey and reflects her commitment to ongoing learning and providing the highest standard of evidence-based care.

Aishah is known for her authentic, genuine and non-judgemental approach, creating a safe space where clients feel heard, understood and supported. She works collaboratively with children, adolescents and adults, helping them build greater self-understanding and make meaningful changes aligned with their values and goals. Her areas of interest include trauma and mood disorders, and she draws primarily on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), while also incorporating ACT and DBT where appropriate.

To support our community and make psychology more accessible, Aishah currently has immediate availability, including after-hours appointments, with sessions offered at a significantly reduced fee while she completes her Master's training.

What do cake, laughter and a few games have to do with great client care?

Quite a lot, actually.

Every fortnight at Creating Change Psychology, we set aside time to simply enjoy being together as a team.

No meetings. No work agenda. Just genuine connection.

It's an opportunity to share a laugh, celebrate milestones, enjoy a slice of cake or a favourite treat, play a game, and learn a little more about one another outside of our day-to-day roles.

In a profession where we spend our days supporting others through life's challenges, taking time to connect with each other is something we value deeply.

These moments strengthen our relationships, remind us not to take ourselves too seriously, and contribute to a workplace where people feel valued, supported and enjoy coming to work.

At Creating Change, we believe a positive workplace culture isn't created through grand gestures. It's built through the small, intentional moments that bring people together.

We're incredibly grateful for a team that cares for one another as much as they care for the people who walk through our doors.

What does your workplace do to bring people together? We'd love to hear your ideas in the comments.

A typical lunch at Creating Change Psychology...

It might look like people sharing a meal, catching up or having a laugh, but there's something more happening.

These moments are where ideas are shared, colleagues support one another, clinical insights are exchanged, and relationships grow. It's where we celebrate wins, navigate challenges together, and take a moment to recharge before returning to support the people who trust us with their care.

Working in psychology means spending much of our day helping others through some of life's most difficult moments. Looking after ourselves and each other isn't just important it's part of providing exceptional care.

At Creating Change, we believe the way we care for our team influences the way we care for our clients.

A culture of connection, collaboration and genuine support doesn't happen by accident. It grows through everyday moments like these and remind us that while every clinician has their own expertise, we're never working alone.

Because when our team feels connected, our clients experience the very best of us. Sometimes the best conversations happen over lunch.

Thank you to our incredible team for bringing your passion, kindness and commitment every day. We're grateful to do this work alongside you.

What does a typical lunch break look like where you work?

Meet Paul!

Choosing the right psychologist is one of the most important decisions you can make, and feeling comfortable with the person you're talking to matters.

We're delighted to introduce Paul, one of the psychologists at Creating Change Psychology.

Paul is passionate about creating a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space where people feel heard, understood and empowered to work towards meaningful change. He understands that reaching out for support can feel daunting, which is why he takes the time to build genuine connections and tailor therapy to each person's unique goals and experiences.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions or simply wanting to better understand yourself, Paul is committed to helping you move towards a life that feels calmer, more connected and more in control.

We know that every person's story is different, and Paul believes therapy should reflect that working collaboratively with you to build on your strengths and support lasting change.

Have you ever felt lonely... even when you're surrounded by people?

Loneliness isn't simply about being alone.

You can have a loving family, friends, colleagues, or a busy social life and still feel as though no one truly understands what you're carrying.

Loneliness is that quiet feeling of disconnection. It can leave you feeling unseen, unheard or like you're facing life's challenges on your own.

Over time, loneliness can affect much more than our emotions. It can impact our confidence, relationships, physical health, motivation and overall wellbeing.

The important thing to remember is this:

Feeling lonely doesn't mean something is wrong with you. It is a common human experience, and it doesn't have to be permanent.

Sometimes the first step towards feeling more connected is a small one:
• Reaching out to someone you trust.
• Saying "yes" to an invitation.
• Joining a community or group.
• Reconnecting with someone you've lost touch with.
• Or speaking with a psychologist who can help you understand what's contributing to those feelings and support you in building meaningful connections.

At Creating Change Psychology, we believe everyone deserves to feel valued, connected and understood. Asking for support isn't a sign of weakness, it's often the beginning of positive change.

If loneliness has become part of your everyday life, please know that you don't have to face it alone.

We’re really pleased to welcome Paul Hegeman to the Creating Change team.

Paul works with adults navigating addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma, ASD and ADHD areas that can feel overwhelming, and at times quite isolating. What stands out in Paul’s approach is the way he meets people where they are, without judgement, and takes the time to really understand the story behind what’s going on, not just the symptoms on the surface.

He brings a depth of experience alongside a calm, grounded presence that helps clients feel safe enough to slow things down and start making sense of things. From there, the work becomes more intentional building insight, developing practical strategies, and supporting meaningful change that actually lasts beyond the therapy room.

We know that reaching out for support isn’t always easy. Having the right person alongside you can make a real difference, and Paul offers a genuine, collaborative space for that process.

If you or someone you know has been thinking about getting support in any of these areas, Paul is available immediately for appointments both daytime and after hours.

You’re welcome to call our team on 8883 3185 or send us a message to find a time that works for you.

It’s been a while in finding its legal feet but we are so relieved that coercive control is now spoken about, recognised and now there is a consequence.

Last week, Callum Fairleigh became the first person in NSW to serve prison time for coercive control. He was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with a non-parole period of 15 months.

Samantha, who is protected by a 10-year apprehended violence order, gave permission for her first name to be published to help victim-survivors feel less alone.

If you’ve met Shannon Salama, you’ll know she’s thoughtful, steady, and really sharp. She brings a strong science-first approach to therapy, grounded in evidence and careful formulation, so sessions don’t just feel supportive they’re purposeful. Shannon is the kind of psychologist who helps clients understand what’s happening in their brain and body, and then translates that into practical, realistic strategies you can actually use in day-to-day life.

A big part of what she brings to psychology is her research mindset. Shannon has conducted research exploring whether a “brain BMI” measure may help predict bipolar disorder risk in people who have a parent with bipolar disorder, with findings suggesting certain brain patterns alongside a higher BMI may be linked with increased likelihood. That curiosity and rigour shows up in her clinical work too she’s thorough, thoughtful, and stays close to what the evidence suggests, while still tailoring therapy to the person in front of her.

We’re lucky to have Shannon on our team. If you’re looking for a psychologist who is skilled, calm, and genuinely invested in doing therapy well, she’s someone we’re proud to recommend.

Like many Australians, we have been sitting with the shock and sadness of the Bondi Beach tragedy.

Events like this don’t just frighten us in the moment they can quietly shake our core beliefs, that the future is predictable, that public places are mostly safe, that “it won’t happen here”. When those beliefs take a hit, it’s common to notice your mind start scanning for danger, replaying scenarios, or widening the fear to everything and everywhere.

If that’s you, it can help to address it early, before it generalises into a bigger worry....
- Notice the shift “My brain is trying to keep me safe by thinking big”
- Reduce repeated exposure to graphic footage and constant updates as it keeps the alarm system switched on.
- Return to basics on purpose focus on your sleep, movement, regular meals, time with safe people.
- Take one small step back toward normal life, rather than avoiding everything.
- Talk it through sooner rather than later with someone steady a trusted person, your GP, or a psychologist.

And if you’re supporting kids simple, honest answers, reassurance about what’s being done to keep people safe, and a gentle watch on how much news they’re consuming.

My thoughts are with the people who were harmed, their loved ones, and the communities directly impacted. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or not safe, reach out for immediate support.
