There's something special about watching children care for a garden they've helped grow.

The children from Khaleda's Family Day Care really enjoy watering their vegetables each day, checking for new leaves, flowers and little signs of growth. They excitedly share their discoveries with one another and take great pride in helping to care for the plants.

These simple moments in the garden are filled with learning. Children are developing patience, responsibility and an understanding of how living things grow, all while enjoying fresh air, sunshine and time together.

We can't wait to see what they'll harvest next! 🥬🍅🌼

This week, our BHFDC staff team, Educators and children teamed up for an epic Virtual Play Session, launching us straight into the exciting world of science! 🚀

As part of our Science Week celebrations, we explored this year’s theme, “Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All”, through curiosity, creativity, play and discovery.

We became scientists for the morning, shared ideas, made predictions, cooked up some clever hypotheses, explored exciting reactions and discovered that science is all around us! 🧪🔍

Just like a seed needs care and nurturing to grow, children’s questions, ideas and curiosity need opportunities to flourish. 🌱💡 This session was all about planting those little “seeds of science” and nurturing a love of learning that can grow far beyond the session.

🍓 Fresh Fruit Fun! 🍍

The children from Afroza's Family Day Care showed off their amazing cutting and knife skills as they carefully chopped up fresh, delicious fruit to create their very own fruit platter! 🥝🍇

Not only was this activity a tasty treat, but it was also a fantastic way for the children to practice fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and safe food preparation. And of course, the best part, eating their colorful creations 👩‍🍳

Our Little Explorers had a fantastic adventure at the Museum of Fire in Penrith, where the children stepped back in time and explored historic fire engines, equipment and the fascinating world of firefighting 🚒🔥

The highlight? Climbing aboard a historic fire engine for a ride! 🚒 The excitement and smiles said it all!

The children had the opportunity to explore, ask questions, discover how firefighting has changed over time, and learn about the important role firefighters play in our community.

Our Little Explorers Mobile Play Sessions provide wonderful opportunities for children to learn beyond their usual environments through real world experiences, hands on exploration and plenty of curiosity.

A big thank you to our educators, children and families for making it such a memorable morning!

The children from Khaleda's Family Day Care enjoyed walking through the garden, checking on their plants and making observations about how much they have grown. 🌱

They discussed the changes they could see and talked about when the fruits and vegetables might be ready to harvest. 🌱🍅🥕

A wonderful hands on learning experience supporting children’s curiosity, observation skills and connection with nature.

Held annually on 4 August, Children’s Day is a special opportunity to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and learn about the importance of culture, family and community.

The children from Love Play Learn Family Day Care explored this meaningful day by reading Greedy Frog by Gregg Dreise, a Dreamtime story about sharing, supporting one another, water and caring for Country. 🐸💧🌿

It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn, connect and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

The children at Explore & Grow Family Daycare have been enjoying learning more about letters through play!

Using simple paper cups, the children matched alphabet letters, making their learning fun, hands on and engaging.

This activity supported letter recognition, matching skills and early literacy development while allowing the children to learn through play.
