Ayatana Within

Ayatana Within 🤍 Welcome to Ayatana Within - a sanctuary where nature and self-care meet. Australian botanical skincare, clean ingredients & mindful rituals.

More than skincare - an invitation to slow down, reconnect and nourish your skin & soul. 🪷 I'm a bit of a hippy warrior princess, embracing life’s challenges with resilience and learning from everything it presents. Since becoming a parent, I’ve dedicated myself to researching how to nurture my children with clean food, natural body products, and kind thinking. Over time, I’ve continued to craft b

ody products that nourish `the body and soul, using only toxic-free ingredients. This journey led me to create Ayatana Within, a space of sanctuary where we nurture ourselves inside and out. I believe our body and soul require commitment, not a miracle. My vision and dream are to encourage everyone to live kindly, love their children, and help our universe thrive. We may face weeds on our path, but we also have the ability to see flowers. Together, we can create a kinder world for ourselves and those around us.

I think we've forgotten how to simply care for ourselves...

There was a time when looking after ourselves wasn't another task to squeeze into an already full day. It wasn't something we had to schedule, download an app for or feel guilty about not doing well enough. It was woven into everyday life through simple routines that gave us a chance to pause, even if only for a few minutes.

Somewhere along the way, self-care became another thing to achieve. We started talking about elaborate morning routines, expensive products and finding the "perfect" way to look after ourselves. I don't know about you, but I think that can feel exhausting before we've even begun.

The more I've reflected on what Ayatana Within means to me, the more I've realised that caring for ourselves doesn't need to be another expectation we place on ourselves. It can be as simple as rubbing a beautiful moisturiser into your hands before bed and actually taking a moment to notice how you feel. It might be making a cup of herbal tea and sitting outside for five minutes before the house wakes up, or taking a slow breath while you're watering the garden instead of rushing straight onto the next job.

Those little moments probably don't seem very significant on their own, but I've come to believe they're often the moments that quietly bring us back to ourselves.

That's really what I hope Ayatana Within becomes. Not somewhere that tells you to do more, but somewhere that gently reminds you that looking after yourself doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it begins with simply paying attention to the moment you're already in.

I'd love to know... what does a small moment of self-care look like for you these days?

People often ask me where my ideas for new products come from, and the truth is they rarely begin with a business plan or a list of products I think I should have.

More often than not, they begin with a question.

Sometimes it's something I've been curious about myself. Other times it's a conversation I've had with someone at a market, a question from a customer, or a need I've seen come up again and again.

From there, I start researching, reading, learning and exploring. I spend time understanding the ingredients, how they work together and whether they're the right fit for what I'm trying to create.

Only once I'm happy with that process do I move into formulating.

That's probably my favourite part.

I genuinely love watching an idea slowly come together. Measuring ingredients, making small adjustments, testing different combinations and taking my time until everything feels just right. There's something incredibly satisfying about creating a product from scratch, knowing exactly what's gone into it and why each ingredient has been chosen.

I don't rush that process.

I don't believe beautiful products come from rushing.

They come from curiosity, patience and a genuine desire to create something that people will enjoy using.

For me, it's never been about creating as many products as possible. I'd much rather create a smaller collection that I'm truly proud of, where every product has a purpose and every ingredient has earned its place.

I think that's one of the things I enjoy most about making skincare.

There's always something new to learn, another ingredient to discover and another opportunity to create something thoughtful.

That's what keeps it exciting!

I'd love to know... have you ever wondered how a skincare product goes from an idea to something sitting on the shelf, ready to use?

When you're choosing a skincare product, what usually catches your attention first?

For most of us, it's the front of the label. We notice words that sound appealing, beautiful packaging or a product that promises exactly what we're looking for. That's completely normal because that's what it's designed to do.

I used to shop exactly the same way.

Over time, though, I found myself becoming more curious. I started wondering what was actually inside the products I was using every day, so I began doing something really simple. I'd turn the bottle over and have a look at the ingredient list.

To be honest with you, I didn't know what half of it meant.

Some of the names were impossible to pronounce, and I certainly didn't understand every ingredient. But instead of putting the product back and feeling overwhelmed, I started learning a little at a time.
That small habit completely changed the way I looked at skincare.

Not because I was trying to find the "perfect" product or because I wanted to avoid everything with a long name. I simply wanted to understand what I was choosing and feel more confident in those choices.

we should talk about that more.

Learning doesn't have to happen all at once. You don't need to become an expert before you can make a small change, and you certainly don't need to replace everything in your bathroom overnight.

Sometimes it starts with nothing more than turning the bottle over and asking, "I wonder what this ingredient is?"

That's the kind of curiosity I'd love to encourage here.

Because I believe we all deserve to understand the products we use and feel confident making the choices that are right for ourselves and our families.

That's what ingredient awareness means to me.

I'd love to know... are you someone who already reads ingredient labels, or is it something you've never really paid much attention to?

As I've been reflecting on Ayatana Within over the past few months, I had one of those moments where everything suddenly made sense.

For a long time, I felt like I was stepping into something completely different. I'd spent more than twenty years working in community services, supporting people to build confidence, knowledge, independence and hope. Then here I was making skincare, and part of me wondered if I was leaving that work behind.

The more I sat with it, the more I realised I hadn't left it at all.
The purpose has never changed.
The way I express it has.

Whether I was supporting someone through my work in community services or helping someone understand an ingredient list, the heart behind it is exactly the same. I've always wanted to help people feel more informed, more confident and more empowered to make choices that are right for them.

That's why education has become such an important part of Ayatana Within.
I don't want this page to be somewhere that tells you what you should or shouldn't do. There are enough voices online doing that already.

What I hope to create is a space where we can stay curious together. A place where questions are welcomed, conversations are encouraged and learning feels enjoyable rather than overwhelming.
If something I share encourages you to look at an ingredient label a little differently, try a simple self-care ritual or feel more confident in a choice you're making for yourself or your family, then that's a wonderful outcome.

For me, that's what this business has always been about.

The products are something I genuinely love creating, but helping people build confidence in their own choices is what gives those products their purpose.

Has there ever been a moment where you realised your purpose hadn't changed... only the way you were expressing it?

I'd love to hear your story.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about the way we talk about self-care.

It often feels like it's been turned into something we need to plan for or somehow squeeze into an already busy week. We see beautifully curated morning routines, long skincare rituals and luxurious spa days, and while there's absolutely nothing wrong with any of those things, they're not always realistic.

For me, self-care has never really looked like that.

More often than not, it's found in the little moments throughout the day. It's making a cup of herbal tea before the house gets busy. It's spending a few quiet minutes in the garden. It's taking my time when I apply my skincare instead of rushing through it because there's another job waiting.

Those moments might seem small, but they're often the ones that help me feel most grounded.
I think somewhere along the way we've started believing that if we can't dedicate an hour to ourselves, then it's not worth doing at all. I don't believe that's true.

I think caring for ourselves can be woven into everyday life. It doesn't have to be another task on the to-do list or something we feel guilty for not doing well enough. Sometimes it's simply about choosing to slow down for a few minutes and being present in whatever we're doing.

That's really what Ayatana Within is all about.

Yes, I create skincare, and I absolutely love formulating each product, but my hope has always been that they become part of something bigger. A quiet reminder to pause, take a breath and care for yourself with the same kindness you so freely give to everyone else.

To me, that's what creating your own sanctuary looks like. It isn't about escaping life. It's about finding small moments of calm within it.

I'd love to know, what does that look like for you?

Is there something simple you do that helps you slow down and reconnect, even if it's only for a few minutes each day?

If someone had asked me years ago what was in the products I was using every day, I probably couldn't have answered them.

Like most people, I'd pick something up because it looked nice, smelled lovely or promised great results. I trusted that if it was sitting on the shelf, it must be okay.

Over time, though, I became more curious.

Not because I was afraid of everything or trying to be perfect, but because I wanted to understand what I was using on my own skin and what I was choosing for my family.
That curiosity completely changed the way I shop.

These days, one of the first things I do is turn a product over and read the ingredient list. Not because I expect to recognise every single ingredient, but because asking questions and learning along the way helps me make choices that feel right for me.

I think sometimes people assume you need to know everything before you can start making better choices.

You really don't.

You don't need to memorise long ingredient names or completely overhaul your bathroom cupboard overnight.

It can be as simple as becoming a little more curious than you were yesterday.
That's something I hope to share more of here.

Not fear.
Not judgement.

Just simple, practical information that helps you understand what's in the products you're using, so you can make informed choices with confidence.

We're all learning as we go, myself included, and I think there's something really empowering about that.

Do you ever read ingredient labels before buying a product, or is it something you've never really thought about?

I'd love to know where you're at on your journey.

Over the past few months, I've spent a lot of time reflecting on Ayatana Within and where I want to take it.

One of the biggest things I've realised is that this business was never really about skincare.

I mean, I love creating my products. Formulating has always been one of my favourite parts of what I do, and I don't think that will ever change.

There's something really special about creating something with your own hands, knowing every ingredient has been thoughtfully chosen and every product is made with care.

But when I look back over the conversations I've had with people over the years, especially at the markets, I realised we rarely just talked about moisturisers or balms.

We talked about children with sensitive skin. We talked about reading ingredient labels and wondering what half the words actually meant. We shared ideas about natural living, swapped stories, asked questions and learnt from one another.

It wasn't the products that people remembered most. It was how those conversations made them feel.

That's when it clicked for me.

Ayatana Within has never just been about making skincare. It's about helping people feel more confident in the choices they make. It's about sharing what I've learnt, continuing to learn alongside this beautiful community, and making natural living feel approachable rather than overwhelming.

I don't have all the answers, and that's ok.

I'm simply someone who loves learning, loves creating, and genuinely enjoys sharing that journey with others.

That's the direction you'll start seeing more of here.

There'll still be beautiful products, because they're a big part of Ayatana Within, but you'll also see more conversations about ingredients, self-care, conscious living and the little things we can all do to care for ourselves and our families.

Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can share isn't a product.
It's knowledge.

One of the questions I get asked quite often is, "What does Ayatana actually mean?"

It's one of my favourite questions to answer because the name wasn't chosen simply because it sounded beautiful. It was chosen because of what it represents.

Ayatana is a Sanskrit word that translates to sanctuary.

When I first discovered its meaning, something about it just felt right. I couldn't stop thinking about it because it perfectly reflected what I wanted this business to become.

To me, sanctuary isn't necessarily a place.
It's a feeling.

It's that moment when you take a deep breath after a busy day. It's the comfort of stepping outside into nature. It's making yourself a cup of tea and finally slowing down for five minutes. It's choosing products that make you feel good about what you're putting on your skin. It's knowing you've made a conscious choice for yourself or your family.

Life moves quickly, and it's easy to spend so much time looking after everyone else that we forget to check in with ourselves.

That's why the idea of sanctuary has become the heart of Ayatana Within.

Everything I create, whether it's a skincare product, a conversation about ingredients or something educational, comes back to that same intention. I want to help create small moments where people feel more connected, more informed and more present in their everyday lives.

It doesn't have to be perfect.
It doesn't have to be complicated.

Sometimes creating your own sanctuary is simply making one thoughtful choice today that your future self will thank you for.

I'd love to know... when you hear the word sanctuary, what does it mean to you?

If you’ve been following Ayatana Within for a while, you may have noticed things have been a little quieter around here recently. It wasn’t because I’d stepped away from the business. In fact, it was quite the opposite.

I’ve been taking time to reflect on where I want Ayatana Within to go and reconnect with why I started it in the first place.

When I began creating my products, I wasn’t setting out to build a skincare business. I simply wanted to create gentle, natural products that I felt good about using on myself and my family. My curiosity about ingredients and desire to make more informed choices became the foundation for everything that followed.

Over the years, I’ve realised Ayatana Within has quietly become something much bigger than the products themselves. It’s become a place where conversations begin, people ask questions, share their experiences and become more curious about what they’re putting on their skin and bringing into their homes.

That realisation has shaped the next chapter of this business.

You’ll still see the products I love creating because they’re a huge part of who I am, but you’ll also begin seeing more of what sits behind them. I’ll be sharing more about ingredient awareness, simple self-care, conscious living, inspiration from nature and the everyday moments that remind us to slow down and care for ourselves.

My hope is that this becomes more than a place to discover beautiful products. I hope it’s somewhere you feel welcome, learn something new and leave feeling more confident in the choices you’re making for yourself and your family.

Whether you’ve been here since the market days or you’ve only just found Ayatana Within, I’m so grateful you’re here and excited to share this next chapter with you.

I’d love to know, how did we first cross paths?
