DON’T JUST LOSE WEIGHT. PROTECT YOUR MUSCLE.

When you lose weight, you want as much of that loss as possible to come from excess body fat, not muscle.

Muscle matters for strength, movement, balance and healthy ageing.

That’s why at InnoShape, we don’t focus on the scale alone.

Our weight-management approach also includes muscle and core strengthening, helping you work toward fat loss while maintaining a stronger, more functional body.

Because the goal isn’t simply to weigh less.

It’s to become healthier and stronger as you lose weight.

Your body wasn’t designed to sit all day.

When we sit for long periods, our large leg muscles stay relatively inactive. Research shows that breaking up prolonged sitting with short movement breaks can improve glucose and insulin responses after meals.

Movement also supports normal circulation and lymph flow.

You don’t need another hard workout. Sometimes your body simply needs to move more often.

Today, try a short walk after a meal or get up regularly during your workday.

Hydration keeps your body in balance💧

Water does much more than quench thirst.

It helps regulate body temperature, transport nutrients, support digestion and maintain circulation and fluid balance.

Your kidneys continuously regulate water and electrolytes, while your lymphatic system collects excess fluid from tissues and returns it to the circulation. Good hydration supports these normal processes.

Hydration can matter for weight management too. Thirst can sometimes be mistaken for hunger, and dehydration may affect energy, concentration and physical performance.

Water isn’t a weight-loss treatment. But your body needs adequate fluid to function well.

Today’s tip: drink regularly throughout the day rather than waiting until you feel very thirsty.

BENEFITS OF LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE

Feeling puffy, heavy or swollen can sometimes be a sign that fluid is not moving through the tissues as efficiently as it normally would.

Lymphatic drainage uses gentle, targeted techniques to support the movement of lymphatic fluid and may help reduce swelling and fluid build up. It is commonly used as part of lymphoedema management, although the benefit depends on the cause of the swelling and the individual situation.

Feeling swollen or retaining fluid? Ask us whether lymphatic drainage may be suitable for you.

A workout is only one part of your day.

You can exercise for 30 minutes and still spend much of the day sitting.

Australia’s 24-hour movement guidelines encourage us to consider the whole day: physical activity, strength, sitting time and sleep.

Why does that matter?

Moving throughout the day increases energy use, keeps your muscles active and can support better glucose regulation. As part of an active lifestyle, it can also support healthy weight management.

Not every movement needs to be a workout. Walking between appointments, taking the stairs, getting up from your desk, gardening or taking a short walk after a meal all count. The whole day matters.

Today, notice your longest stretch of sitting and break it with a short walk.

Nutrition influences circulation more than most people realise.

An anti-inflammatory, minimally processed diet supports fluid balance and reduces inflammatory load both important for lymphatic health.
But diet alone isn’t always enough.

Structured lymphatic therapy, movement, and muscle activation complete the picture. Support your system from every angle.

Slim waist, but a disproportionately larger lower body?

Have you noticed that your hips and legs remain significantly larger, even when you lose weight, eat well or exercise?

It may not simply be “stubborn fat.”

Lipedema is a chronic condition involving an abnormal, disproportionate build-up of fat, most commonly in the legs and sometimes the arms.

It is often misunderstood or mistaken for ordinary weight gain.

Common signs of lipedema may include:
• Disproportionately larger legs or arms compared with the torso
• A relatively smaller waist with persistent lower-body fat
• Pain or tenderness in the affected tissue
• Easy bruising
• Symmetrical enlargement or swelling of both legs
• Fat distribution that changes very little with weight loss or exercise

If this pattern sounds familiar, it may be worth having it properly assessed rather than assuming you simply need to lose more weight.

Hydration is easy to reduce to just about number:
How many litres did you drink today?

But your body manages fluid through your kidneys, circulation, lymphatic system and electrolytes.

Drinking enough matters.

Drinking more and more is not necessarily better. And feeling puffy does not automatically mean you need more water.

Fluid balance can also be influenced by sodium, hormones, medications, inflammation, circulation and underlying health conditions.

So rather than asking only “Am I drinking enough?”, look at the bigger picture.

Try this today:
Instead of catching up with a large amount of water at night, spread your fluids more consistently across the day.

I put on 3 kg in one month. Is it really all fat?

So let’s do the maths.

If all 3 kg were body fat, using a rough energy estimate, that would represent around 23,000 kcal.

That’s roughly 750 extra kcal every day for a month.

Did I really eat that much extra every single day?
Probably not.

So instead of panicking over the number, I started looking backwards.

What changed? What did I do differently last month?

Less sleep.
More stress.
More snacking.
Less movement.
Different meals.
More salt or carbohydrates.
Fluid retention.

Some of the weight gain may be fat. But 3 kg on the scale does not automatically mean 3 kg of fat.

The scale tells us what happened.

Your habits, body composition and circumstances help us understand why.

And once we understand why, we can work out what to change.

Try this today: Look back over the last 30 days. What changed first? Your sleep, stress, food, movement or fluid retention?

If you’re looking at the number on your scale and wondering what it actually means, that’s exactly the kind of conversation we have at InnoShape.
