Meet Kate, One of Our Amazing Support Coordinators! ⭐

Kate brings more than 30 years of experience in the disability sector, inspired by her family’s lived experience and her desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people living with disability.

After completing a tertiary qualification in Psychology, Kate began her career as a Case Manager within the State Government’s block-funded disability system. This provided her with a strong foundation in the sector and many valuable learning opportunities.

Kate also worked within Queensland Health, where she managed Ministerial complaints and helped achieve positive outcomes for people experiencing challenges within the health system. This experience strengthened the problem-solving skills she now brings to her role in Support Coordination.

For the past eight years, Kate has worked as a Support Coordinator, assisting NDIS participants and families from a wide range of backgrounds who face many different challenges.

Kate is highly skilled at navigating the NDIS, including its ongoing changes and complexities. She is passionate about supporting all people living with disability and has a particular interest in supporting people with acquired brain injuries and degenerative neurological conditions, having supported friends and family through these experiences.

Kate also values the connections she has developed with support providers and enjoys bringing people together to make a meaningful difference in participants’ lives.

We are very lucky to have Kate as part of the New Chapter Support team! 💛

🌟 New Pages: Ka Ka’s Journey with New Chapter 🌟

Ka Ka has been part of the New Chapter community since the very beginning, and over the years has become a truly valued and much-loved member of our programs.

She lives at home with her family in a warm and caring environment. While English is not their first language, communication is supported by Karen-speaking staff, helping to build strong connections and a supportive, understanding network around her 🤝

Ka Ka is known for her beautiful smile, often greeting those around her with a gentle wave. She enjoys getting out and about in her specially designed pink wheelchair, which reflects her love for pink and red. With support from staff, she regularly explores her community, taking in the sights of flowers and local gardens, and enjoying time out and about 🌸

A particularly exciting milestone came last year when Ka Ka received her very own modified wagon, designed to support her wheelchair. After many years of waiting, this was a truly special moment. The vehicle arrived ready for use, complete with that unmistakable new car smell, and has since opened up new opportunities for travel and independence.

With staff trained to safely secure her wheelchair, Ka Ka is now able to attend appointments and enjoy outings with greater ease. Whether it is heading out for the day or exploring new places, this has been a meaningful step forward in her journey.

All of us at New Chapter are so proud of Ka Ka and the joy she brings to those around her 💛

She continues to brighten each day with her smile, and we look forward to seeing her enjoy many more outings, experiences, and moments in the community.
