Finally….2024 Homebirth stats

Apologies for the delay, where has the last 6 months gone? Mainly catching babies, family time, healing a broken bone and trying to homestead 💜

This was another year of supporting 32 beautiful families making their own choices to birth their way and seek medical support when needed ⭐️

As the slides show we had 29 babies born at home with 3 in labour transfers needed and 2 transfers needed after birth.

The Babe with an unknown exomphalos herniation not noticed on early Ultrasound was otherwise well and had surgery to repair at RCH 💜

And as in a previous post the 100th baby was born on Boxing Day the same day as her brother 3 years before, what a beautiful coincidence to end the birthing year 💜

And just to remind everyone that ‘big’ babies can be born at home, even to first time mums!! A big shout out to this mumma who birthed her 4670g (10lb 5oz) beautiful girl through water 💜

The longest gestation in 2024 was a first time mumma who made the decision to continue her pregnancy until her body was ready to go into labour and then she embraced it with all the power of a woman at 43 wks ⭐️

I still feel so honoured I get to share this space with so many amazing families and I couldn’t do this without the support of my wife and our little ones 🥰
And the beautiful midwives who I also share this space with Louise and Krystal and her new baby

It’s a wrap on 2024 ♥️

What a year it’s been with awesome times and some challenging moments.

But broken foot and then back locking up aside 😱 IKR!! I have something beautiful to share…..

On Boxing Day 2021 a family had a beautiful homebirth with me and became 3. This Boxing Day the same family had their second homebirth with me and became 4 ♥️

So having 2 babies born on the same day 3 years apart is one thing, but this babe was also born en caul and unveiled by their mum 🥰

Also this babe was the 100th baby born at home since I opened this service, and it was also Krystal’s first repeat client with me 🤩

So many things about this family, their birth and sharing these moments with a beautiful soul that just fill me with so much love and joy 🥰

I’m also wondering if it’ll happen again in another 3 years 😂

When life gives you lemons!! (Just an analogy)

So for now I’m a midwife with a twist 🍋
I took a fall and managed to crack a bone so now I’m confined to using these tools (in addition to my Midwifery skills-cos there’s babies due)

As I always advise my clients ensure you have the right supports around you, so that you can lean on them at your hardest moments and don’t be afraid to ask for help ☺️

I’m so grateful to my wife who’s taking all the lemons and making great lemonade ☀️

And so much love and respect to my 2 beautiful midwife friends who have assured me they’ll pick up the difficult stuff and even run me around ♥️

It’s stressful, it’s hard to ask for help and I feel really bloody frustrated (it’s only been a few days) but by reaching out to these amazing people in my life means I have the best support I can 🥰

Don’t be afraid to reach out to the people in your life when you need that support, you’ll make the best lemonade together 🤩 xx

Hey everyone advance warning‼️

⭐️ If you’re like this possum mama and wanting to have a homebirth with me next year (2025) please plan well as I will have NO availability for August OR September!!

So this means no holiday or new year pregnancies, please abstain until Valentines 💝 heehee

🌈 We are taking our first trip as a family back to Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 slightly dreading the extended flight with our then 3 and almost 6 year olds, so any tips gratefully received 😉

Stop telling women they can’t!!

This is a repost from but for some reason the text will not transfer!

Ultimately the info is in the above slides and practitioners have to stop denying women the right to choose how they birth their baby if they are breech due to a flawed trial and lack of skills 😡

There is no reason that every practitioner should not be able to support a vaginal breech birth they just need to have the emergency skills in case a baby needs assistance…Exactly the same as a head down baby knowing emergency skills IF NEEDED!!!

There are some awesome courses being facilitated and and there is no excuse not to be offering this to women!!
