It is with much admiration and gratitude that we farewell Judy Woodlock, who has been a treasured part of our Volunteer Constellation for an incredible 22 years. 🧡

Since joining us in 2004, Judy has generously contributed more than 1,500 volunteer hours, providing invaluable clerical and coffee shop support across our hospital.

Judy’s familiar Tuesday presence has become part of the fabric of our hospital. Her warm smile, kindness and willingness to help have touched so many caregivers, patients and visitors over the years.

As Judy begins her next chapter and moves closer to her family, we thank her for the extraordinary contribution she has made to our hospital community.

Thank you, Judy, for 22 wonderful years of service. We wish you good health, happiness and plenty of special moments with your family. 🧡

🚴 Building, racing and learning together.

We were lucky enough to sit down with Thomas & Parker from St Therese’s Primary School recently to hear how preparations are going for the 2026 Energy Breakthrough.

There’s also a special connection to our hospital community, with Thomas’s parents, Alanna and Todd, both caregivers at St John of God Bendigo Hospital.

St John of God Bendigo Hospital is proud to sponsor St Therese’s four Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) teams, with 37 students preparing to take on the challenge in Maryborough this November.

With a team focus of “build, race, learn”, the students are training every fortnight and working hard on their fitness, teamwork and race strategy. Thomas and Parker said they’re particularly 'focused on building their fitness so they can stay consistent throughout the race'.

We’re proud to get behind these young students and can’t wait to cheer them on when they race in November!

Welcoming Bishop René Ramirez RCJ to Sandhurst

It was a privilege for our CEO, Michael Hogan, to attend the Installation Mass of Bishop René Ramirez RCJ as the ninth Bishop of the Diocese of Sandhurst at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bendigo.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the Diocese and provided an opportunity to personally welcome Bishop René as he begins his ministry in our region.

On behalf of everyone at St John of God Bendigo Hospital, we extend our warmest welcome to Bishop René. We look forward to working together in service of our community and wish him every blessing as he leads the people of Sandhurst with faith, compassion and hope.

🍓 A Jar Full of Kindness 🍓

For James Breene, Pastoral Services Manager at St John of God Bendigo Hospital, giving back is simply part of who he is.

Through his homemade preserves, jams and sauces, James generously donates his time, skills and personal resources, raising thousands of dollars each year for local charities.

Lovingly made and eagerly anticipated by caregivers, his preserves have become a much-loved tradition around the hospital, often selling out quickly. They're also a wonderful example of a circular economy in action, with caregivers donating homegrown fruit and vegetables, empty jars and ingredients, before purchasing the finished products to help support those in need.

Over the years, proceeds have supported organisations including Lifeline Loddon Mallee, Bendigo Foodshare, Sunshine Bendigo and Dementia Alliance Reflections at Eppalock.

For James, the joy has never been about recognition. Despite the countless hours he dedicates to this initiative each year, he believes its success belongs to the entire hospital community.

Thank you, James, for your generosity, humility and unwavering commitment to helping others. Your kindness continues to inspire us all.
